My Question or Issue
Every time I start a new song in a playlist or album, the Repeat Playlist option is now disabled instead of automatically enabled like it used to be. It shows as white instead of green despite me not changing any settings.
I have to change it myself every time I choose a new song, or else Spotify will start playing random suggested songs or stop playing altogether once the playlist is at the end. I love using Spotify on the go and it's frustrating to have to stop what I'm doing and start the music again.
Talking to support didn't help, the issue was previously affecting only my iPhone and is now a problem on the Android app and the Web Player too.
I tried clean reinstalling the app, restarting my phone, and changing every possible setting and nothing has worked.
Edit June 4: Update to say it's been fixed, at least for me.
Edit August 17: Issue is back with the addition of the Smart Shuffle feature.
Hi there!
Could you let us know the following:
Does this occur on any other devices you use? In any case, a short screen recording which shows this behavior in action would be greatly appreciated. That way we can get a clear understanding of what's happening on your end. Feel free to even share what troubleshooting you've done so far so we avoid repeating the steps.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply. Cheers!
Hey there @ThelastSnake_Prime,
Thanks for joining the thread.
Reinstalling the app is a good start, but can you let us know if you've already tried to log out > restart your device > log back in? It's also a good idea to try clearing your cache to remove any old files that might be causing issues.
We're not able to reproduce this behavior from our end, so if the trouble shooting above doesn't do it for you, could you let us your phone's Spotify version and, if possible, if you experience this on other mobile devices?
Lastly, when the playlist ends and the new song starts, is it a random song from the playlist or always the same one? Could you also double-check that you don't have any songs queued up after the last one in the playlist?
We'll be on the lookout for your answer and we'll see what we can suggest next.
thanks for your quick response, i have restarted my device, cleared the cache and log out just after and the problem still there.
my spotify version is 8.7.26. very intresting detail is when i control my playlist on my phone and play the music on the pc version the loop button desingage and when i select manually on the computer the loop reactivates.
there is no songs queted after this one and there is another playlist played.
hope that helps.
Hey @ThelastSnake_Prime,
Thanks for your reply in this thread 🙂
The details you sent help us a lot. Just to confirm, did you notice if this happens if you use another mobile device to control the music on your computer? It’d be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a family member or friend to open your account and check.
On another note, did you notice if the loop button works fine while you're using your phone to control the web player?
Lastly, can you let us know the exact make/model of your device?
We'll keep an eye on your response!
Similar problem, only my button IS green, and yet the playlist just Stops at the end. I turned on autoplay to see if that‘s the problem, but then it just plays random stuff not on my playlist. I have the repeat button highlighted the Whole Time but it‘s like the app doesn‘t care. Very frustrating.
I have also been having this issue. From the help that I've received from a moderator, this doesn't seem to be the intended behavior (thank god), so hopefully a fix is right around the corner. I think we just need to make enough noise so that it is sooner rather than later.
Same here. I have to press the button loop a playlist now every time I play a new playlist. Why are they making all these pointless changes that just make the app worse. First they get rid of dates on playlists and now this. Going to keep using Spotify cuz is best option. But if they’re gonna make changes make improvements, not take away features and make things worse
As @ThelastSnake_Prime pointed out, on the pc version this problem is not there. Same for me. Judging from the message boards, a bunch of other people had or are having the same issue. I'm using an iPhone 13 and have version 8.7.36.1590 installed. For the purposes of busy work, I tried the boilerplate remedies both moderators proposed in this thread. Not surprisingly, none of them worked. If the problem is with the phone app and not a pc, deductive reasoning says the phone app is probably the culprit. A memory management problem, error condition and exception handling, a coding issue, who knows. This problem periodically crops up. I've seen posts about it as far back as 2017. Here's one thread of ticked off Spotify listeners regarding this matter: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Shuffle-and-Repeat-keep-turning-off/td-p/4491970. What's it going to take to get a resolution?
Hey @omkd777,
Thanks for the reply and the information.
Are you using the phone to control the playback on another device via Connect or the issue occurs only when using the phone as a playback source?
Keep us posted,
Cheers!
Hey @omkd777,
Thanks for your reply.
Just to confirm, is this happening with another mobile phone? Also, tell us if this persists even when logging in with another account on your phone (if possible).
Lastly, let us know if this behavior started after a recent update.
We'll be on the lookout for your next message.
The bug have been fixed
Boosting so they hopefully see this faster. Still not fixed on my end. Same issue and it's driving me insane (: (iPod/iOS Premium User).
Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
Sorry to hear that you're having such issues with the Repeat function.
We tried reproducing this on our end, but the Repeat button would stay on when switching between playlists and even when closing the app. So this issue might be device or account related.
It's best if you try logging out > restarting your device > logging back in? It's also a good idea to try clearing your cache to remove any old files that might be causing issues.
If the issue is still present after this, please let us know the following info and we'll look into this further:
Looking forward to your replies.
Hi,
Thanks for the response. It seems that the repeat function on playlists is back to its expected behavior of staying toggled on when starting new playlists. Thanks to Spotify developers for fixing that. Now would be nice if you brought back the date info on playlists (used to show as a little dot option that you could swipe left to see while playlist was opened).
I am still having the issue. I have tried clearing my cache, signing out, offloading app data, then deleting the app, then restarting my phone, reinstalling the app and it still did not work. I also did a fresh format of my entire phone (I did NOT restore from a back up). I was still having the issue UNTIL on a whim I decided to log back by manually typing in my username and password instead of using the auto sign-on that I was prompted with using my biometric scanner. I don’t know what may have caused the issue to be how I was signing in, but this seems to have fixed it.
