Podcasts won't play in chronological order (even after sorting by date)

My Question or Issue

When I listen to podcasts, it always plays the previous episode. It does not matter how I sort the podcast. Am I missing something? Every other post on this topic makes the solution put to be a simple as setting the sort order, but this is not working. Seems ok on the desktop app, but the iOS app is not working.

For example, I order oldest to newest, I finish episode 3, then it returns to episode 2 (when it should move to episode 4).
