Release Notes - Spotify for iOS 1.7.0

ReleaseNotesiOS.jpg

What's new in this version (1.7.0)

  • New: While you're viewing an album on iPhone, check out more releases from the artist in one tap.
  • New: Now you can enjoy Your Music, Browse and Radio on Ford SYNC AppLink. And see those preset numbers on your dashboard? Use them to store your favourite playlists, albums and artists.
  • Fictitious: This app is growing a really fancy beard.

Important to note

  • There is an issue with Browse not updating properly. We're working on releasing a hotfix for this very soon.

That auto-populate feature was pretty neat.

I don't see why they got rid of it.

It is easier to delete an unwanted title of a playlist than to type it in yourself.

Strange.

I also posted the below in the thread "Why Can't I See My Music in Ipad?" which I started IN APRIL

For real this time...

Thanks @MattSuda, for finally admitting that you and the rest of the people at Spotify have been lying all this time the few times any of you have deigned to communicate with us.

Spotify does care about your comments. If only you knew what goes on behind the scenes.

Well, we've got a pretty good idea of what goes on behind the scenes: A whole lot of conversation and development for the iphone and the app in Ford cars. C'mon man. I know they pay you in junkets to Norway to go to the home office and I am sure other stuff, but you can't possibly expect us to believe you at this point, right? Spotify has effectively ignored us for months. This thread has more comments on it than any other thread in this forum and I get kudos and replies every day (since April) from people frustrated to no end by Spotify's lack of caring enough to simply explain the problem. This is no longer about the feature (though, make no mistake, we all want it!), this is about Spotify not caring enough about its PAYING CUSTOMERS to honestly communicate about what the hold up is. Spotify has worst the Customer Service I've seen in a long time.

You may have had a good idea for music streaming and you may have been the first in the US market with it, but the shine is going to wear off pretty soon if the company keeps treating its paying customers like that. If there's a lot of conversation going on "behind the scenes," as you say, take that behind the scenes and talk about it. Tell your bosses that the angry ipad users leaving the rpremium service may not have been enough to break Spotify's bank, but if this is how you treat paying customers, the next time Spotify has an epic fail on this level (and you will, and worse), you'd better be ready to communicate to the actual people who pay the actual bills.

App is barely responsive. Will do a clean re-install but I tried that after the last update and it didn't seem to help. I swear if I didn't mainly use Spotify on my PC (as opposed to iPhone app) I would cancel my subscription RIGHT NOW and what really gets me angry is when I see a attempt at humor on the update page instead of the words "bug fixes". Spotify has the potential to stay on top of the game, they have Beats "beat" on catalog alone but it won't happen if QUALITY is not improved.

Please bring back autopopulating the names on new playlists. It seems like a minor thing, but it is very helpful on a mobile device.

I'm going it give "some" respect to mattsuda for actually actively participating is this conversation. My question is, where is "per" the community manager? I don't think I've EVER seen this person address any question about this. As the "manager" of this community, THEY should answer this question. IMO.

What say you Per?

How about you start fixing some of the major bugs instead of adding these useless featues? This is like the most pointless update ever. This bug for examlpe: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-iOS-iPhone-iPad-iPod-Touch/Songs-occasionally-won-t-start-in-mo... makes spotify essentially useless to me. Thanks for nothing...

I agree, it was very helpful.

Now it seems like a backward step

With version 1.7, if you search for an album, and the display the tracks of the album, then if you keep scrolling down, you will see some of the other albums that have been made by the same artist.

Does anybody notice that the first thing mentioned in the update - the ability to see other albums by the artist in one tap - isn't part of the update?

@nonstopdigital

Go to an album page and scroll down.

It now shows more albums from that artists below it without needing to go to the artist page.

Thanks Matt. I finally figured out how to use the new feature. It was confusing since they said one tap but it was a scroll down. I tapped my screen hoping to see something underneath the album art like the good ole days!

I now see that this is what they were talking about.  Thanks for the response.  However, this is almost worthless.  How do they pick what albums they list there?  They should simply allow you to go to the main album page where they list all the albums.  This company has me consistently scratching my head in amazement.

+1 to being very very angry about the removal of auto populated playlist name when adding to a new playlist from an album.

Three questions:
(a) Why wasn't this listed in the list of changes in this version?
(b) Why was this feature removed? (I'm hoping it was an accidental regression but I'm not optimistic based on past Spotify product management decisions intended to penalise paying customers)
(c) When can we get this fixed? (Hint: next point release of the iOS app is the only acceptable answer)

Cannot get it to start without crashing.  iOS 8 final, iPhone 5.

Tried to rectify by uninstalling, re-downloading, and reinstalling - and also rebooted, etc.

Launching the app crashes back to the home screen after showing the splash screen.

However, the app stays in the program switcher and clicking on it gives the same results (quits to homescreen).

App crashes on starting in iOS 8 (final release). Still not working after killing app and restoring the phone.

Okay but when i click on an album, nothing happens..... ? Like in Android it show something but on iOS 8??

@sellinglennon

Are you refering to the release notes for the latest android update?

"What's New

New: Tap an album or playlist cover art for a surprise."

I don't use the android app, so I have no idea what that is, but I think that hasn't been implemented into the iOS app yet.

OR do you mean that nothing in the app is working?

So i see that version 1.7.1 has been released. can someone tell me if the album separators still is missing?

Im still on an earlier version where i have the separators and i wont update the app until they bring it back.

Like an idiot I updated to 1.7.1 and it now crashes immediately upon opening every time. Anyone else having this problem?
