Search Function in Offline mode

Solved!

Search Function in Offline mode

Hello, i am a (mostly)happy Premium suscriber to the spotify service. I am using an Iphone 4s with 6,1,3 ios. currently, as a paying suscriber have two app choices. the spotify 4iOS app, and the Spotify app. It seems to me that the Spotify app has a much cleaner and more suitable interface, however the search function is useless in offline mode. I searched for the problem online and found only complaints for the app years ago, in which the solution was brought in.

Am i the only one who simply cannot search for artist, album or songs via the search function in offline mode. ive made the music avalaible offline, and when i try using the search in the 4iOS it works, but with the newer i get nothing. I dont know if the search function is broken or if the problem lies in that the function wasnt carried over, but in that case it needs to be fixed. I should be able to search amongst my music and find a song or artist, especially as a paying customer.

Ive tried installing and reinstalling

I always thought the search system was unavailable offline, as it queries the Spotify server to find the results.

Android has never had this ability, and neither has iOS, as far as I am aware.

That post is more than a year old. It is likely the system was changed, to allow for more features or other things.

However, I'll ask for confirmation from staff for you.

Hi,

Upon testing it (latest Spotify, iOS 7 beta 5), I found that it brings up synced songs when searching for them. However, if I search for an artist, the artist does not appear in the artists tab of the search; only the songs by that artist will appear in the tracks tab.

Is this the same for you?

Anthony 🙂

Hey guys!

As far as I'm aware, search is not available in Offline Mode.

I've tested on Android, Desktop and iOS and none bring up search results.

It certainly would be helpful to have a search ability in Offline Mode though, so I've passed on your feedback BasketballVikin 🙂

no mine is giving me nothing. may be because i do not have 7ios beta?

How dopey is the spotify app being designed to not have search ability in offline mode, sepecially for Premium subscribers?  Can that really be true?  Also:  Why would I see random missing songs in offline mode that are visible in online mode?  For example, I have ten Dan Fogelberg songs visible online, but offline only nine.  I cannot determine how pervasive this problem is because my phone shows the song count at 1,149 but Spotify seen on my computer does not appear to give me a song count at all.  May I please get some advice from one of you kind & more knowledgable subscribers?

Greg

I remember that on iOS Spotify used to have a function where, even if you were offline, you could still search for the songs that you had added to playlists that were playable offline.

Or, if you searched whilst online, the songs that were available offline which related to the search terms you used would appear at the top of the results with green ticks beside them.

Why has this function been taken away? It was very useful.  Now when you're offline the only way to listen to a particular song is to filter all the different offline playlists if you can't remember which playlist it is in!

I second this opinion. I used to be able to search for songs on my iphone using my iphone's connection. If I cannot pull up specific songs on my phone, I do not understand the purpose of my Premium account - why am I paying $10/mo? I can just listen to Pandora at home...

Actually, I just found out this problem was due to my iphone not having a wireless connection. After I repaired my connection (by resetting the phone),  search in Spotify works for me again 🙂

Hello Spotify team,

I have updated to the latest Spotify version with the offline search mode, but it's still not fully satisfying.

If i want to for examle find all my "Michael Jackson" songs I find 4 songs as results, hitting "See all songs" doesn't show me the rest of my songs.

Hello discoikingshamn,

When is this being fixed in the desktop version? Just this second turned my laptop to airplane mode, went to search for a song that i know is avaliable offline, and it says to go online to search? It also wont allow me to search for local files either when offline??

it does the same when i set spotify to offline mode?

Thanks,

Jared

Hi! Can you tell me which version of Spotify you're using? If you view Local files under Your Music, do you have a track by Taylor there?

Hello There,

The only music under local files is the music on my computer, not my offline synced music.

Also a side note, I cant CTRL-F (Filter) the local files either, but thats not too much of an issue for me really.

The version is Windows & 1.0.11.134.ga37df67b (i know im in the ios/app forum but it is the closest i found to my issue)

I can filter my offline playlists fine as usual on phone and pc, but I cant search for them without internet. I'd rather not make a new playlist that has all of my synced musing in it just to filter, but to search for them offline.

Kind regards,

Jared

On Windows you should be able to search for the local files on your computer. You don't have to offline sync them like on iOS.

The search results will never be more than 15 tracks when searching for local tracks offline or online.

The offline search is only for tracks and not for playlists.

Try updating the app to the latest version too.
Unfortunately there's no support for filter mode for local tracks yet, it's only implemented for playlists.

I can't search on Spotify on my macbook when I am offline, but pay for premium. How can I be able to search on Spotify when I don't have internet? I am considering canceling my membership if I'm not allowed to use it completely offline.
