Spotify is extremely slow to sync offline playlists on iOS

Solved!

Spotify is extremely slow to sync offline playlists on iOS

Hi,
I'm running the latest Spotify for iOS 5.0.1 version + did a complete restore on 2 iPhones 4S yesterday. I have the same problem on both my iPhones: Spotify is unbearably slow to sync offline playlists.
I have 1200 songs that I want to sync for offline listening. The mobile Spotify app is extremely slow to sync songs and usually stops after 20-25 songs. This has been happening for weeks if not months.
I have a blazing fast cable connection: 100Mb download speed + backup 8Mb download DSL. I've tried on these 2 connections + a 20Mb DSL connection at work and I have the same issue. Wifi signal is 5/5 on both iPhones and bandwidth tests are good.
Friends of mine living where I live (Strasbourg, France) don't seem to have the same problem. I can only think that it might be related to my account.
In addition, I've had to re-download all my playlists something like every 2 weeks for the last 4 or 5 month. I'm only using Spotify for offline listening on 2 devices so it has nothing to do with the 3 device limit.
I usually turn offline mode off every 5 days to make sure my offline playlists will stay on my 2 iPhones but I still have to re-download everything very frequently.
Spotify has become unbearably painful to use because of all this...
Please help!
Thank you,
Fred

Nope. Still slow here. Is it possible you might be syncing over 3G  ?

Nope, it's been on wifi. Only thing I did is add another playlist to sync and it started cooking. Hopefully it lasts. Was just curious if I was the only one seeing it, I've been using the service for over a year now and it's always been slow.

as written above -

wifi download at max speed here too

no sync connection to computer established

but not needed anyway cause both clients (mobile/computer) sync in realtime via internet by themselves

Just downloaded the new blocparty in about a minute

So wish you luck the phenomenon starts spreading 🙂

I'll speak on behalf of everybody directed to Spotify:

Fix the F***ing problem.

The end.

Add another to the list. Took over an hour to sync about 40 songs. Even Rdio was never that slow for offline sync. Hurry up and fix this, I don't want to eat up my data connection on the way home from work just to listen to some Skrillex.

That new Xbox Music service is looking aweful tempting....

I had sopitfy on my Ols Iphopne 3Gs running Ios 4 and it used to work like a charm. 100 songss synced in less than 20 mins. Then this happenned - i upgraded to a new iPhone 5 and since than it has been a ridulous process to sync songs. Have been trying to sync 240 odd songs for over 5 days now. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling it - made it worse as i lost all songs which got synced and now have to start from Zero.

Can someone show some light on this?

Same problem here - have ipad and iphone 5, both on ios6 and also an old iphone I was going to use as an ipod running ios4. All worked fine before I upgraded iphone although the fact the old phone doesn't work either makes me suspect it's not a problem my end. Saving for offline use on the PC is quick - and it's using the same network as the phone. It's taken nearly 2hours to sync 2 songs. I've emailed CS - no reply yet. However I'll be cancelling my Premium Service if it isn't fixed asap.

They haven't addressed it for almost 8 months so I doubt they will address it anytime soon. This will be the demise of something that could have been special.

weird though - i've been a user for about 2 years with no problems - suddenly bam offline syncing is slow as a dodo

the new xbox music service will be where I'm off to as soon as it's up and running. 9 tracks synced in 4.5hrs. I think it's doing it over 2G and not the wifi too!

ok - I may have found a solution - at least it worked for me. Go to your wifi (in settings) and swipe/click the little blue arrow to the right to get into the wifi settings. Set the HTTP Proxy to Auto - mine was on "Off" - shut down, restart, go into spotify and I could then sync 10 songs in a minute....hope this helps people

This helped, ive synced 8 songs in less thana 5 minutes. But its still WAY too slow. I can download songs off itunes faster.

I'm having mixed results

Is odd, initially this yeilded a signifcant speed increase

However doing a bit of testing with this on and off (and restarting the phone), the speeds dont really differ that much for me now.

Confused. Sigh.

So, is this a wifi issue or Spotify issue? I see almost unusably-slow syncing on my home wifi, but work is ok. This would be the only time my home wifi has given me trouble.

This is still a problem over wifi. However, if you enable sync over 3G, it will sync at realistic speeds.

syncing over 3G/LTE defeats the purpose of saving your limited data plan Instead of by offline syncing your music over a wifi connection.  my wifi works fine and regardless of whether I'm at home or work, the syncing process has been terribly slow on my 4S and still on my 5.  same story on iOS 5 and 6.

can anybody confirm this, but on my iPad 3rd generation, my wifi offline sync is surprisingly fast.  I have the wifi only version.  I just synced about 25 songs in a matter of a few minutes, about 5min

Yes, my ipad 3rd generation has no problem syncing offline playlists. My iPhone 5 however, takes ages.

My iPhone 5 also quite slow to sync.

I am currently trying the above solution.

This is really a pain, especially with a 25 mb/s connection.

ditto...I have 40 mpbs download speeds and still painfully slow to sync/download on iphone 5.

So apple just released the ios 6.0.1 update.

This update has improoved my condition slightyly.

I was able to sync 5 sonngs in 2 minutes.

Still not great because this was at the lowest quality.

Has anyone else had any improvement?
