Spotify on Windows shuts down when iPod is connected

I have used spotify premium for over a year. I have just decided that I want to sync my old, refurbished iPod video with spotify. However, I am having an issue where I open spotify, connect my iPod, and then spotify closes automatically. The iPod will even show up in the devices section of spotify but after about 5-10 seconds spotify closes and cannot be re-opened while the iPod is connected. I really want to use my iPod to listen to music through the aux plug in my car and I need to put some of my spotify playlists on it in order to do so, so please help!!

P.s. I'm pretty sure when I used to actually use my iPod I would have it connected to my computer and spotify stayed open...this was on a different computer...I have searched everything and I cannot figure out what is wrong. I also ran a scan on the iPod and it supposedly cleaned off junk files and fixed any corrupt things that were on it. Someone help!
