Spotify says I'm in offline mode

Spotify keeps saying I'm in offline mode even though I'm not, and that only Premium users can stream offline.  I just registered for Spotify Premium and it synced all of my starred tracks to my phone and yet when I try to search for something and play it, Spotify won't let me because of what I stated in the first sentence.  Help?

Have you tried a clean reinstallation of the application?
