Spotify stops playing about 10 seconds into a song after pairing AirPods

Spotify stops playing about 10 seconds into a song after pairing AirPods

After  pairing my AirPods, and pressing play (Spotify is already open) a song will start and then immediately stop again.  Nothing has been touched - not the AirPods, not the iPhone.   I do have Spotify open on my Mac as well, but the primary device for playback is the iPhone.

This usually happens when I first pair the AirPods but it has also randomly happened during playback if the device has been playing back for 10+ minutes.  The bluetooth connection for the AirPods has not dropped. This is a Spotify problem.

Anyone else see this?

Hey @larissakitty, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a clean reinstall of the app following these steps.

If you're still having trouble, let me know what device this happens on, as well as the current software version. Also, let me know what AirPods model you have.

Let me know how this goes!

I tried restarting the device and uninstalling/reinstalling the app.  This is still happening (sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I was waiting to see if it happened again after re-installing)

Device: iPhone  11 Pro

OS: iOS 14.2

Spotify version: 8.5.78.928

AirPods: A2031 version 3A283 (there are 2 pairs of these)

I also have a MacBook Pro 2018 running macOS Big Sur: 20A5384c

Big Sur does change the way AirPods operate when they have been paired with multiple devices; however, this happens even when I turn off bluetooth on the Mac so the only available connection would be my iPhone.

Hey @larissakitty

Thanks for letting me know! If possible, do you have a friend that has a Mac running macOS Catalina to log in and see if the issue happens on that device?

If not, let me know if this happens on your phone itself or if it's just the Mac.

Keep me posted.

I haven't had this happen since I've updated the software on both my iPhone and updated the Big Sur version. I think the problem is the air pod hand off wasn't working as designed. I'm seeing weird behavior in native apple/Mac apps now but Spotify is no longer stopping after 10 seconds. You can mark this as resolved until the official release of Big Sur

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hey @FRMSGP,

Thanks for the post.

Can you clarify if this is happening only when you have Airpods connected to your phone?

Also, does this happen on other devices you use?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hello

I do not use airpods, it happens even when I play on speaker & when i use
both wireless & wired earplugs.
On laptop I used spotify web, it worked fine there.

I have recently started using Spotify when I go to the gym. However, fedup
of listening to few songs, so I thought of adding some new songs. But these
new songs are of no use as plays for few seconds only.

Thanks

Hi @FRMSGP,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you try turning of your VPN to see if the issue persists?

Also - can you confirm that you followed the steps that's provided in this article? There's some more steps to help thoroughly uninstall the app from your phone so if you haven't, we'd highly suggest it since the steps will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!
