Syncing iPod to Spotify help needed!

I have an iPod nano, 3 gen. Does this mean I can only download local files? I've followed all the steps in order to sync Spotify playlists to my ipod. But everytime I go to put a playlist onto my iPod, all it shows is a little orange circle with a dash in it saying "Only local files synced".

Spotify will only transfer Spotify music wirelessly to a wirelessly enabled device.

It only act as a poor replacement for iTunes and transfer local files to an iPod. 

Don't do it!
