My Question or Issue
The volume buttons on the iPhone and iPad can be used to change the volume of the device that’s being used through Spotify Connect. On previous versions of iOS there was a real fine grained control for this, but on iOS 16 the steps are the same as the normal volume control of iOS.
Please bring back the fine grained control.
Thanks for confirming folks!
We’re happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify.
The Community is always here if something else comes up.
Have a good one!
I have the same issue, increments of 5. On my laptop no issues, phone it has issues
8.7.66.438 spotify version
iOS 16.0 (20A362)
Hey folks,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info sent.
We've passed this information on to the relevant team and it's now under investigation. We currently don't have an estimated time for the resolution, but we hope to have this resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
In case you haven't sent the info previously, add to your next response the following info:
- Make and model of your device
- Current OS version
- Exact Spotify version
If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Have the same issue once I updated to iOS 16 earlier this week. Couldn’t figure out why my Sonos system kept getting adjusted to the closest increment of 5 when I changed the volume in the Sonos app. Talked with their support and couldn’t figure it out, messed around with the apps and setting volume today and finally figured out if I close spotify on my iPhone which is on iOS 16, the problem doesn’t happen anymore.
- Make and model of your device: iPhone 13 Pro
- Current OS version: iOS 16.0 (20A362)
- Exact Spotify version: 8.7.66.438
I guess you can save yourself from part of the problem by disabling the lockscreen functionality when playing on external devices. (Settings > devices > devices lock screen)
Also the exact same problem!
Spotify connect forces audio volume increments in 5 steps!
Iphone 14 Pro
IOS 16.0.2
Spotify 8.7.68.568
Samsung Soundbar Q80R
Spotify version 8.7.68.568
I have same problem: after installing ios16 volume buttons/slider only allows +/- 5 increments which carry over to KEF Connect app/speakers & physical remote control.
Perhaps someone at Spotify HQ can download ios16 onto an iPhone to better understand the issue.
Same here!!
I have the exact same problem! It was driving me nuts. I can confirm that this problem only on device running ios 16. I have another device running iOS 15 and iOS 14 and can control volume in normal increments.
In iOS 16 Spotify connect forces audio volume increments in 5 steps which is either too soft or too loud.
iPhone 11 Pro
IOS 16.0.2
Spotify 8.7.68.568
Samsung Soundbar Q900T
iPhone 12 Pro Max
iOS 16.0.3
Spotify 8.7.68.568
I have the same issue with IPhone 12 míní and Sonos one, furthermore it also happens to me that when my music is playing through Spotify connect and I open the Spotify app, the volume goes directly to mute. When I use volume buttons to adjust it, the volume goes right up to like volume 10 or so, which is really annoying. I use IOS 16.0.3 and Spotify 8.7.68
Spotify released new update yesterday and the bug has not been fixed 😩
Hey everyone,
Thanks for posting the requested details.
We've received news from the team working on this and they've confirmed that they're working on a fix. It might however take some time to implement it, so please make sure to keep your app up-to-date in the meantime.
Take care,
In addition to the steps the volume control is flashing nonstop in the app when using Spotify Connect. It flashes on any iOS screen every 2-3 seconds when playing using Spotify Connect. I went to select a text and just about made the family deaf when I also turned up the volume that flashed on screen at the wrong time. So painful. Turning off the lockscreen option diminishes that to only in the app itself, but does remove important functionality from the iOS app experience. And still makes the Spotify app itself hard to use as the volume control is smack in the middle of the app.
The only reason we subscribe to Spotify Family in our house is for Connect. If they keep ignoring/breaking it easy reason to go elsewhere.
I get the sense that no one has Spotify Connect in a test plan before release.
Hi Elena,
Is there any new about the problem what the others described previosly? I have the same issue with my samsung Q950T soundbar and iPhone 12 mini / iPad pro (2021). There are the latest system on every devices and installed the latest Spotify as well. Unfortunately, Spotify is unusable with soundbar currently. When will be the software update what solve this problem?
iPhone 12 mini: iOS 16.1 + Spotify 8.7.78.426
iPad pro: iPadOS 16.1 + Spotify 8.7.78.426
Thanks,
Kristof
Same problem here iOS 16.1 + newest Spotify app. Yamaha receiver via Spotify connect.
Same problem with latest app version. Spotify connect increases volume in increments of 5
iPhone 13 Pro
iOS 16.1 (20B82)
Spotify 8.7.82.107
Same here and it’s really annoying
ios 16.1.1 this morning and always the same issue
Please respect your paying customers. The problem is very annoying. Almost blew up my speakers yesterday because the volume controls keep popping up while trying to navigate Spotify.
yesterdays new version did not address this problem at all.
Hi all, we are discussing the very same issue, albeit from a different angle, in the following conversation here:
At least I can see here that Spotify claimed two weeks ago that "We've received news from the team working on this and they've confirmed that they're working on a fix. It might however take some time to implement it, so please make sure to keep your app up-to-date in the meantime". Such a statement is still missing in the other thread but, indeed, recent updates don't fix this issue yet.
Hi folks,
Thank you for your patience.
We've received a report that this issue should be fixed in the newest version of the Spotify app.
Please make sure your app is updated to version: 8.7.78. If you don't see the update pending, you might need to log out and back in a couple of times.
Cheers 🙂
