We have an older ipad (iOS 9.3.5) which, until 12 August 2024 was working fine with some limitations

Our ipad with iOS 9.3.5 was working with some Spotify limitations (not all screens would display) however it played music and connected to our sound system. On 12 August 2024 the ipad logged itself out of spotify and now it will not login.  When entering the Email & Password we get a response "Youe email and Password combination does not match a Spotify account". Using the same email and Password combination I can login using other devices.  Teh device is functional (just old) and operates as we want.

Why won't Spotify work on our older device?

Hey @Tumpoa, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Spotify has a list of system requirements to ensure that you do not have problems when using the app across different devices. For iOS devices, including iPads, you will need an operating system of iOS 14 and above. Since your device is equipped with iOS 9.3.5, it is not guaranteed to work with Spotify, which is why you may be facing that error message.

You can always use the Web Player here if the app doesn't work as you expect and still want to listen to music on the iPad.

I hope this helps!

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

I have an iPod Touch 5th gen that's on iOS 9.3.5 that I used for Spotify so I could listen to music without the distractions/temptations of my phone. It's so frustrating that even though I have the app, I can no longer log into my Spotify account on it. The hardware on this device is perfectly functional, and the idea that it's going to become e-waste purely b/c of discontinued software support is deeply frustrating.

I am trying to use SPOTIFY on my old iPad mini (MD531ZP/A). The Operating System it is stuck at iPad OS version 9.3.5 (13G36), can't go anything newer.

The process of trying to download SPOTIFY on this older OS was already a challenge. Nonetheless, it was done.

However when I try to Log In into my account... I keep getting this "Your email and password combination does not match a Spotify account. Please try again." error message. I know that the EMAIL and PASSWORD combination is CORRECT because I've just verified to log into the account on my laptop.

I've also tried to Sign Up Free and Continue with Facebook, none of it work.

"Sign Up Free" - when i key in a another email address it just give error "An unknown error occurred. Please try again in a while."

"Continue with Facebook" - due to old OS, it shows "unsupported browser" but it did direct me to a simpler version of the browser. Again, when I keyed in my Facebook credentials and hit "Log In", nothing happens.

Any Help out there?

Use pandora or deezer instead. I heart radio works too

email and password don't match account but it is correct then it says I must be connected to wifi but I am

This is extremely disappointing. Using my spotify on my old ipad helped me make use of my old ipad which i would have had to throw otherwise and increase the EWaste burden on the planet.

The proposed solution of using the Web Player doesnt work either, because the website just says that the safari browser is "unsupported", and that I should update my browser (which I can't) or download the spotify app (which doesn't work anymore).

I am extremely disappointed.

Could you please elaborate on this?

I was suddenly logged out of my account on all devices. I changed the password and managed to sign back in only on my phone. Unfortunately, not on my iPad. The ipad runs an old iOS version (9.3.5) which won’t allow Spotify updates beyond the installed version. I know we’re talking Jurassic Park here, but it was working perfectly well up til now, and this iPad, which I cannot afford to replace is a crucial element in my day-to-day work life.

My plan is premium if the info helps.

My Spotify App was working on a very old iPad running OS 9.3.5 (or something) until very recently. But now it wont log on, doesn't notice my email & password as valid. (This is why I'm now on this thread). I wonder if something changed again recently, or if it's worth trying to reinstall a legacy version of the app again. Just FYI it wont load/play on Safari either, and I can't download any other browsers either.

As others users on this topic, everything was working (almost) fine to play spotify on an old but perfectly functional iPad iOS 9.3.5. This iPad is plugged on my HiFi sound system.

Unfortunately, my session was disconnected, and now i can't use Spotify anymore...

Impossible to connect via the official Spotify app (trying to do that was identified as a suspect activity, and i was logged off from all my devices...).

I tried to play the browser version (open.spotify.com), but neither Safari or Chrome was supported...

Please treat your customers with more respect. My HiFi sound system can play LP from the 60's, cassettes from the 80's, CD from the 90's, but is now unable to play music from my +20€ monthly subscription streaming service...

Same problem. Here Working fine on one old Ipad. Want to use an old Ipad mini as Media Player/controller. Does not connect due to password. Apples update policy is one thing to ague about but spotify excluding me with an active subscription is wild.

Did some of my own digging, turns out they have announced that they had cut off support for outdated spotify clients from 2019 and below since march 5th of this year. before knowing this i tried everything i could, resetting passwords and all but to no avail. such a bummer coming from an old spotify premium subscriber knowing that one of my devices had become obsolete.

Hi! It seems like the spotify website would only say "Unsupported browser" everytime i tried the web app, sad even that isn't an option 😭

I find it equally disappointing that Spotify does not support the old iPad anymore. Another device wasted to the skip? It clearly has enough processing power to play music, so why isn’t the Spotify app clever enough to use it?
