Hey everyone, the Spotify Community team here.Today we’re announcing that we will no longer support iOS 6 as a platform.
We obviously take retiring platform versions very seriously, and this decision was made with the goal of creating the best experience for our users.
We understand you might have some questions about this change, so we’ve outlined the top questions here. And please feel free to post below if you have any other concerns!
What will happen if I use iOS 6 on my device?
If you already have Spotify version 1.8.5 for iOS 6 installed on your device you can continue to listen to your tunes. Please note there will not be any further updates or fixes for this app as iOS 6 will no longer be a supported platform.
In order to receive support and the latest Spotify features on iOS devices you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 7 or higher. For more information about Spotify’s System Requirements just click here.
How do I update the iOS software on my iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?
We recommend checking this article on the Apple Support site.
I have some more questions about this...
No problem, please post them here. Thanks everyone!

Totalmente disgustado porque no puedo instalar spotify en mi ipod touch 4g con IOS6.1.6! Lamento darme cuenta luego de pasar a Premium! Me siento estafado! UN HORROR!
From original post:
"This decision was made with the goal of creating the best experience for our users - taking into account the confusion of having two different Spotify iOS apps available"
Meredith, do you think in retrospect that this reasoning has proven valid?
You have not improved anyone's experience... You have simply made it worse (or removed it entirely) for hundreds of paying subscribers.
You have not prevented any confusion, you have added to it... This decision has created utter chaos, your users do not know whether they can install the app on their device or not.
It's not going to get any better. These are mainstream devices and this thread will be filled with vitriol for months if not years to come.
It would be a really constructive decision to reinstate support for iOS 6. It really looks like that is the only way to avoid a large amount of negative feeling from your users.
I am convinced that Meredith reads all our replies, but I cannot be sure for she has not reacted to any post on this thread.
I can as a matter of fact not listen to my tunes. all my music is gone. This is not OK
Hi
On my ipod touch (ios 6) Spotify would not load my playlists so I ddi what I usually do in this situation and deleted the app to reintall it, except that it won't now reinstall and is asking for ios 7.
Can you tell me how I can get it back?
Thanks
You know what - You don't care. You don't. Otherwise you'd be about fixing this, becasue YOU understimated how many customers would be effected by this.
Just be honest - or fix it. Make up you minds so those of us you have effected can cancel our subscriptions and move on and find a service that does care.
But based on the level of concern, I doubt you'll even answer. At best it will be some sorry company line about "enhancing our expereince".
A deal breaker for me, my iPhone 4s will never be upgraded beyond iOS 6 and I plan on using it to play music for at least 5 more years.
One of my devices is an old Ipod Touch. How can I download the "Spotify version 1.8.5"?
Even doesn't update this version, you guys could release this version for download on iTunes. Or here in your website.

The iPhone 4S can go to iOS 8, so really, if you don't plan on upgrading then this is one of the downsides of not upgrading. Plenty of apps no longer support iOS 6, Spotify is no exception to the rule. Also, five years is a long time to own a smartphone in this day and age. iOS will be a very different operating system five years from now. You will run into a lot of troubles for app support if you don't intend on upgrading.
The fact is app development is a lot more difficult with having to maintain support for older versions of iOS. iOS 7 changed a lot in terms of the tools that developers have to work with, and those new tools no longer support older versions of iOS.
This is ridicolous. Leaving the ios6 version in the app store unsupported does not harm anybody and, please do not try to fool us: why the hell would you need effort to NOT maintain stuff. My daughter's ipod is useless - well as far as spotify goes - you are losing one customer here and I know that you are not going to care for me once my newer devices get older.
Guys I think i have the solution to this problem. I've been using premium for 3-4 months-ish and I haven't used Spotify on a portable device since I just wanted the no-ads experience and my mobile phone is kinda **bleep**ty (like really **bleep**ty) well then a bright idea came to my mind, what if I revitalized my old iPod 4 so I can use it as an offline music player? Found it and proceeded with restarting the whole device (since it was pretty laggy tbh) then I created a new iTunes account with my actual mail and tried to download Spotify, the iOS 7 message appeared and I panicked, I looked for the solution for about 30-45 minutes and found that if you download the Spotify app on your PC iTunes, then Match it with your device (in my case my old iPod 4) the compability app message then appeared! I'm using Spotify in my iPod right now with no problems. Hope it works for you all guys.
PS: Sorry for my english, my first lenguage is spanish and haven't practiced in a while lol. Good luck!
@Leandroota: Deezer no longer supports iOS 6 either, so I fail to see how that's a solution. iOS 6 is no longer supported by many app developers, Spotify is no exception. It's not feasible to continue to support it when it's such a small number of users on it.

what do you mean by "match it with your device"??
@what @rodriver31 meant is "buy" the free app through iTunes on your computer (i.e. add it to your library/your cloud) so that when you go to the app's page in the Appstore on your iDevice it shows the cloud button instead of the "install" button.
When tapping that cloud the Appstore will give the desired message about installing an older version of the app.
This worked for me on the German Appstore as well and it should work in any other region.
