iOS 6 Support Announcement

Hey everyone, the Spotify Community team here.Today we’re announcing that we will no longer support iOS 6 as a platform.

We obviously take retiring platform versions very seriously, and this decision was made with the goal of creating the best experience for our users.

We understand you might have some questions about this change, so we’ve outlined the top questions here. And please feel free to post below if you have any other concerns!

What will happen if I use iOS 6 on my device?

If you already have Spotify version 1.8.5 for iOS 6 installed on your device you can continue to listen to your tunes. Please note there will not be any further updates or fixes for this app as iOS 6 will no longer be a supported platform.

In order to receive support and the latest Spotify features on iOS devices you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 7 or higher. For more information about Spotify’s System Requirements just click here.

How do I update the iOS software on my iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?

As I just learned, you need to buy it either on a iOS7 device or your windows computer (using iTunes) with the same AppleID first.
Then the next time you try to install on your iPod, it should show a little cloud icon instead of the "purchase" button.

I have just got spotify prem account but my daughter cannot use it on her iPod touch iOS 6. Can this be sorted or I may as well cancel my membership

Where can I get version 1.8.5 of Soptify, I need to reinstall it on my Ipod Touch 4G, running under iOS 6 and not upgradable to iOS7.

This worked beautifully (trick of buying it through itunes) and then going to App store on my old Ipod 4.  Thank you so much- I was really disappointed when I thought I couldn't use this on my iPad.

Hi there,

I'm trying to help out a friend by giving her my old iPod ouch 4th gen running iOS 6.1.6 soley for listening to her offline SPotify with.

I thought I' try mine out just to make sure it worked. I downloded the app, got the latest version that was compatible with iOS 6. I loged in fine, but as soon as I had completed the 'what's new section detailing the EQ and activity sections the app crashes and won't relaunch.

Has anyone else expereicned this? Should I try a reinstall of the app?

I just don't want to give it to her and then it's not able to do what she wants.

I want to claim because I have a Premium account and the Iphone 4. Am I considered a second-class costumer in your platform? If I pay money in order to have a good service, that's the only thing I want. I'm really unsatisfied with your decision and considering to give up mi subscription. I don't have money to buy a new smartphone, and the only thing I want is listening to music in my device.

How much did Apple pay you to take this decision? I just wanted to start using my iPod 4G after having not done so for some while (but it's only 4 years old and still fully functional). Seems like Apple wants to make custumers buy new devices by just disabling most common apps - and app providers join in to that game. Electronic scap and sustainability don't seem to be useful categories here. I will look for alternatives to spotify.

I use old iphones as radios and general access devices in remote locations, garages, and other locations.  I prefer using Spotify where music is desired but, if they don't want me to use their service...  Good bye Spotify, hello Pandora.  Pandora still works fine on IOS 6.

Guys If anyone still have some questions about if it's possible or not to get an older version of spotify for iOS 6 the answer is yes. I just did what @silkeman explained on his post (The solution to this problem it's explained on page 6 pf this thread) and it worked! My Iphone 4 with iOS 6.1.2 got the older version of spotify when installing from my itunes library. Go to page 6 and follow the instructions!

i just bought an ipod 4g yesterday ive given spotify money for years and now the device i bought for this particular reason is worthless cause i cant return it.... im really disappointed in this company...

i got it installed and everything but its just not working right ...

such a big company should be embarrassed to present their product in this way..

please give me a solution not a work around

I am currently using spotify on my ipod touch 4g (iOS 6) but not sync songs from my library to listen offline.

I have an iPod Touch running IO6.1.6 (can not upgrade above this operating system) that was running fine when my iPhone was operations on IOS9. Following upgrade to IOS10 on iPhone my iPod Touch will no longer operate as it did. I understand that Spotify is no longer supporting IOS6 and above but I don't understand why the iPod should now not operate/Sync with the Spotify data following the upgrade to IOS10. I am a premium user.
I have since fixed this issue.... ran Spotify on another device then opened Spotify on the iPod (after deleting, turning off iPod and then reinstalling Spotify) and music started playing and playlists appeared.

I wonder if anything has changed internally lately, since songs can't be downloaded anymore since some weeks? (Except of playlists, there download works...)

I just signed up for the 30 day premium trial. I am trying to get the music on my iphone 6 app, but i can only get it on my ipad pro. I'm signing in with the same credentials on both, but my iphone doesn't seem to access my trial account. it sayd i'm still on the 7 day trial. I need the music on my iphone for the gym, PLEASE HELP, or I won't be continuing the subscription.
