iOS app widget lost functionality

On the Spotify iOS app (version 9.0.58), the app homescreen widget is now.. very ugly and doesn’t have the same functionality as before (showing top albums listened to). Please restore the previous functionality as “play song radio” is never — never — a primary action I would like to take while listening to an album. However, being able to see my most recent albums played and jump to them is something I use all the time.

Spotify is always testing improvements and new features for its content, which means you might see something new on the app that your friend doesn't, or get a new feature to try temporarily. You can read more about this here.

the previous version is so much better. i’ve never used the recommended song radio feature ever and i don’t know anyone who has. the previous version gave me quick access to my frequently played playlists, so it was super nice! i agree that the new version is very ugly. i hope they change it back soon :’)

I fully agree with you. I was so dissapointed to see this widget change. I love hopping around between my recently played music & that was so easy to do with the old widget. I also just loved the way albums and my playlist covers made little collages together in the widget. Please please please change this back ❤️

The old widget was so much better. I often listen to one of a couple of things during the day (one audiobook, one playlist, a few podcasts and a few albums). If I start by listening to an audiobook and then move to an album, then next time I pick up my phone it is extremely valuable to me to be able to go back to the audiobook in one tap instead of four taps with the new widget

The old version was by far my most used and most loved widget on IOS, I beg of you, bring it back.

It looked better and was actually functional. Why was this change even made? Can users at least change what the widget shows??

At this point it makes more sense to not even have a Spotify widget, just use the app.

The home widget is not showing the recent playlist, just the option "go to song radio". I already cleaned the cache, deleted the app and restarted my phone. It happens with every playlistand i hate the looks of if it 😭😭

My Question or Issue

I've noticed that the home screen widget no longer shows my playlist cover, but rather my recently played song. Is there a way to change it so it shows my playlist cover instead? I've tried deleting the widget and adding it back but it's just my recently played song. I think it's a new update but if it's not could someone help me? I know it's not that big of a deal, but it bothers me because I don't have a cute shortcut to Spotify that matches with my home screen lol.

this just started happening to me too! after the old widget change that was super ugly (opening recommended song radio), i would think that they would just go back to the old widget and not try anything new. this one is ugly as well and for people that decorate their home screen it just sucks 💔 i hope they go back to the original and stop trying to make changes.

It’s so incredibly ugly please fix it because it’s gonna be really annoying to find a new widget to use for my homescreen this change is actually ruining my experience I might even stop paying for premium this sucks that much

As someone who’s spotify is their pride and joy, this new update has totally ruined everything. I have sooo many playlists with coordinated covers based on their theme + colors that match my homescreen and this update has taken that away.

Please put it back as it was 🙏🏼 or add some sort of option where we can choose weather to have it display the designated cover or the current song so we can all win 😞

Sorry for my broken english 

latly I have been having troubles with my widget. First it always displayed what album you where listening to exept when you pressed a song, but now it always does that. When I press the album it just displays the song it’s playing and not the album wich i find very sad becouse i realy liked seeing my album. I have tried everything (logging in and out, removing the widget and reinstalling it and just completly deleting spotify and reinstalling it, but nothing works so please help.

I am honestly so aggravated with the new update. It not only messes with the total look of my home screen but losing the functionality of being able to jump to my favorite playlists has been a total pain.

literally i hate it so much i feel like we should at least get the option. had all my playlists decorated so they looked nice on my home screen and everything now it's just all over the place 🥀

Widget definitely needs to be reverted, there is literally no added functionality between the two widget options anymore. Playlist cover was also much better. Allow us to customize the widget at least please.

PLEASEEEEEEEEE make it go back to playlists! as others have mentioned, it's way better to be able to hop right back into my PLAYLIST not the last song played. also as others have mentioned, it looked so much cuter aesthetically to have my playlist cover as the widget, not the last song played.
