iOS update 0.5.8 crashes constantly on iPad

Solved!

iOS update 0.5.8 crashes constantly on iPad

Update: iOS update 0.5.9 has fixed the stability issues. Please update now and test it out.

The new iOS 0.5.8 update has killed the iPad app. Even after reinstall it constantly crashes. What's going on?

I'm running iOS 6.0.1 on the 4th generation iPad.

Spotify can't seem to get their act together...

New update also kills the people tab on the iPad.

When clicking on the people tab, friends are shown for a few seconds and then the list disappears.

This happens on every re-launch. There is no way to get the people list to show for more than 3 seconds.

Also after clicking on settings and clicking on a settings menu on the iPad, the settings back arrow is cut off at the top.

My music experience has been ruined by these bugs.

UPDATE:

I was able to use the app for a while -- notice the other bugs I found --  and after downloading playlists for offline use, the app started crashing.

Looks like downloading any playlist for offline use will constantly crash the app until you reinstall the app.

The most used feature on the iPad app constantly crashes the app?

What...? Updates need more testing before going live.

I would be happy to help test future updates.

It's been indicated that this did not work for some people.  So it looks like someone fixed my playlists, which are indeed working fine.  Sorry for wasting anyone's time.

It was early this morning when I posted my template.

Just an FYI -- I updated it to include more information:

Description

The Spotify app on my iPhone 5 and IPad 4 crashes every time i scroll my playlist screen to the bottom.  It works on my wife's Iphone 5 but she didnt update to 0.5.8 yet.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

1. Updated to the latest version of the Spotify app (0.5.8)

2. Open spotify, it shows my playlists screen by default (the bug only seems to affect this screen)

3. I scroll to bottom to see a folder and it crashes to home screen. If i scroll right to the bottom within a playlist, or within a folder containing no sub-folders, it works fine. The issue only affects the root Playlists view.

4. I tried closing all apps and rebooting.

5. I deleted the spotify app and reinstalled - still  broken.

6. I deleted the spotify app, then rebooted and then reinstalled. Still broken.

Really bad... Since update on iPad just keeps crashing here too. Really bad if you've paid £10 a month for this... Refund for the time we can't use???

Spotify is looking into this.

No - app crashes on startup

Link removed to stop wasting people's time.

I have a feeling that if we don't see a fix posted tomorrow, you might see a lot of unhappy customers seeking refunds for the month at least. So much time wasted on this issue *sigh*...

After about an hour of searching for the problem on the web and getting really pissed at my iPad I found the problem (for me atleast) I can download playlists, but as soon as I want to really 'sync' my iPad with local files on my MacBook it start to freak out. Crashes about 3 seconds after the syncing started, so it a real pain in the ass trying not to sync those files.

It only happens with local files, not with server files.

Description

The Spotify app on my iPad 3 16GB WiFi crashes when I start to sync local files from my MacBook. Only happend after the latest update.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

1. Updated to the latest version of the Spotify app (0.5.8).

2. On trying to open the updated app it crashed, while in proces of logging in.

3. I tried resetting the app (closing from the taskbar & restarting).

4. I tried closing all apps and rebooting iPad.

5. I deleted the spotify app and reinstalled.

6. Tried the solution given earlier (workaround playlist with all the songs in it)

7. App started up and didn't crash.
8. Tried to download offline playlists

9. Had problems with local files (they didn't sync)
10. Forced syncing through the Devices menu in the Desktop app on Mac.

11. App crashes every time it tries to sync a local file, other wise it works.

What I expected to happen

Syncing of the local files from my MacBook to my iPad

What actually happened

Crashes after 1-3 seconds into the syncing process

No visual bugs, so no screenshots.

I really like to get this worked out asap. I rely heavily on Spotify for my music, and since I really have trouble getting to sleep, especially without music, I kinda stayed up all night because of this.

FYI Peoples tab and settings back button are working just fine with me. Can show screenshot if you want. Maybe that is an iOS 6.0.1. issue, since I haven't updated yet. And not going to until Spotify fixes these bugs.

Same issue for me here. iOS 5, iPhone 4, Spotify 0.5.8

Search, playback, radio and whats new all work, but the app crashes when I scroll through the list of playlists.

I had about 80 playlists organised in folders, total about 1000 tracks. About 10 playlists (~120 tracks) were downloaded for offline play. I've followed all the instructions (including clearing Safari data and reinstalling the app, but no joy)

My Spotify username is offmessage

Please work some magic on my playlists. 🙂

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for all the information here in this thread! This information is very very helpful, we're working hard to fix the issues, both crashing when going into playlists and when scrolling down to the bottom of the playlists.

I've done some maintenance on many of you in this thread, some of your playlists might have moved but it should work just fine now. the easiest way to re-arrenge the playlists again is to go into the desktop client and do it from there.

Thanks again for all the information! I'm reading everyones posts here to see if we get any additional information we can use.
