Black Screen in Now Playing View on iPad (v9.0.90)

Hey folks,


Some of you with iPads running the app version 9.0.90 may encounter a black screen when you tap the Now Playing View (bar or cover art). The app becomes unresponsive, blocking access to features like lyrics, queue, repeat, and shuffle.

Your track may keep playing despite the black screen. Closing and reopening the app can temporarily fix the issue while this is being looked into.

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

 

If you're still having trouble, it's worth logging out and signing back in to your account to force a resync or performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

My Question or Issue

Hi everyone,

On iPad Pro (either the 11“ 2nd Generation or the new M5 11“), whenever I tap on the album cover to go to the ‚song menu‘ (for example to view the lyrics, jump into my queue, see more song info), the app just turns black and the only way to go back is to force close the whole Spotify app and to re-open it. Please see the screenshots.

 

Keyboard shortcuts are still working and music keeps playing, so I believe it is rather a display issue and, so far, other features of the app seem to be working fine.

 

I already tried to do a clean app re-install, rebooted my iPad multiple times but none of that worked. There is also no difference whether Spotify runs in a full window, in multitasking mode, small window etc.

 

Is anyone experiencing the same issue? Is there any workaround?

I am currently experiencing the same issue with my New IPad Pro (2024 M4 13” WiFi + Cellular) 

 

I am currently trying to contact Spotify about this and nothing has worked so far - I have factory resetted my iPad, cleared cache on the app and then logged out and deleted the app and restarted my IPad and then reinstalled. But yet still the same issue. My IPad is up to date on the latest version 26.0.1. 

has anyone found a fix for this? Spotify app version specifically?
