My Question or Issue
I noticed when I went to play songs that there were songs in my history I had never listened to before. They were artists and playlists I had never even heard of. Well, lo and behold, I went on my account and someone was playing something live, and it wasn't me. I stopped them and played on my device, then whoever was on my account started playing their songs again.
Basically, my account was hacked. Not only that, whoever did it changed my subscription to premium family, for which I was charged an extra $5 this month. That is totally unacceptable, and incredibly unsettlling to know that my information is able to be taken just like that. Spotify clearly does not have proper security in place. This has never happened on any other site I have been apart of. I have changed my password, and the issue has stopped, but I am still unhappy. What's to stop it from happening again? $5 isn't a lot, but the precedent that this could happen to an account I'm already paying for is disgusting.
I have been a customer for over 5 years now. If this isn't resolved, I will be cancelling and moving to Apple Music, and you can bet I'll be spreading the word. This is a huge breach of trust.
Hello @djammer23!
I understand your concern about this. No worries though, I'll be here to help. In this case, I would encourage you to follow the steps in this Support article. There, you can find how to contact Spotify Support. They'll be able to take a look backstage and hopefully solve this as soon as possible.
Have a nice day!
There seems to have been a breach. Just be prepared when you contact support they will disable your account until you provide the billed screen shot from your statement. Also, their response time between emails is about 20 hours so your account will be down for sometime because of their below average support model.
Hello @Bozworth!
Rest assured that Spotify's platform and user records are totally secure. Account takeovers usually happen because of a breach on another service. If you use the same password for several services, they all have the potential to be compromised if one has a security breach.
In this case, I'd recommend you reach out to Support following the steps here. They'll be able to take a look and hopefully solve this as soon as possible 🙂
Have a nice day!
Hi,
Spotify database has been hacked, they keep telling everywhere their database is safe... here is a link of 100 accounts with username and password.
My account was hacked last week, i've send severall emails to the website but no one is answering. Can you spotify workers stop saying nothing is wrong and actually do some work to secure your database.
Rgds,
Marc
