Applying UNIDAYS discount does not work

Dear community,

I am a student and already have Spotify Premium for a long time. Recently I heard about the UNIDAYS discount for students. I followed the instructions at [1] and got to page [2] at the end. When I click on "Activate Discount" I get redirected to [3] and I get the following error message:

German original:

"Wie es aussieht, kannst du das reduzierte Produkt, das du kaufen möchtest, nicht erhalten. Du kannst dein Konto trotzdem gerne jederzeit auf Premium umstellen."

English translation:

"It looks like you cannot receive the discounted product that you wanted to buy. Nevertheless you can activate Premium at any time."

This confuses me since I already have Premium and just want to have the discounted version.

Do I have to cancel my old subscription and renew it from [2] to get it?

You shouldn't have to cancel first.
