Can't log in to Desktop Spotify - Error code: desktop_login_accounts:3

Can't log in to Desktop Spotify - Error code: desktop_login_accounts:3

After numerous false starts (no graphics/links showing) on my Premium account, I decided to do a clean reinstall from the Spotisfy download page. Found my account okay but refuses to log me in, with the aforementioned (Error Code : desktop_login_accounts:3).

I should add that before giving the Error Code, it states "Service temporarily unavailable please try again later" then the Error Code.

Hey there @RabMcKnight,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd suggest you follow these steps:

  1. Perform (again) a clean reinstall of the app. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience.
  2. Then, install the app from the Windows Apps store.
  3. Before trying to log in, change the default browser on your computer settings. You can follow these steps to do it. If you've been using, for example, Firefox, try using Chrome or vice versa.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

I have seen this response to this error message in several places. I have tried it many times and it does not fix the issue. My PC is up-to-date and everything is running smoothly, but I have not been able to sign in to the desktop app for over almost three months. Are there any other options for me to try? The desktop app is great when it's working, and I would like to continue to use it. Thanks.

Hey @d_rox,

Welcome to the thread!

Just to clarify, have you tried all of the suggested steps by @AlejaR in this post and did any of them make any difference?

If you're on a Windows PC it's worth mentioning that you can download Spotify both from the MS store and our website so I recommend deleting the current version and installing the one you weren't using until now. You can also check the steps from the clean reinstall article in order to see how to get rid of any leftover files which may cause issues.

Additionally, have you tested with a different internet connection? If it's possible try with sharing mobile data via hotspot.

We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Thank you for responding to my reply, but my reply is in the thread with
the post that you suggested. I have tried everything suggested several
times with no success. This issue is ruining my Spotify experience because
I cannot use Spotify in the same ways with the web player as I would in the
desktop app. I'm not sure what else I can do.

Hey @d_rox,

Thanks for the reply!

Just to confirm, does this error message appear after being redirected to the web browser to enter your login details? If so, could you try changing the default browser to one you haven't tried? It's also worth clearing any stored cache & cookie from the browser as well.

Should the issue persist, clearing Spotify related host files that are stored on your device may help. You can find the steps on this page.

Let us know how you get on!

My Question or Issue

Hi! Basically, I have been trying to login into Spotify via the Microsoft app and the downloadable version from the website, so that I can listen to music. Unfortunately, I type in my username and password, but it keeps saying that it's incorrect when I have the username and password pre-saved. Additionally, I was able to login on the browser on my phone as well as the desktop, just fine - so I can't be getting the username and password wrong.
