My Question or Issue

Recently, whenever I attempt to access the Spotify web player, I am prompted to login and must complete email 2FA. I am not manually logging out. For example, I most recently used the web player less than 24 hours ago, and today I find that I must login and complete 2FA again.

I don't mind 2FA for security, but having to authenticate constantly is becoming burdensome. I've tried clearing all browser data, with no improvement. Is there a setting I can adjust?

Hey there @MalIlluminated,

Thanks for reaching out!

Currently, there's no setting to adjust this. However, there are some things you can try:

  • If you're using a VPN, make sure to turn it off as VPNs aren't officially supported and it could be causing trouble.
  • If the affected device is a school/work computer, make sure it doesn't have any active process that auto removes your cache or blocks any other process, as this might be one of the reasons you're being forced to log in again.
  • Another thing you could check is if the same behavior is present when using a different browser.

No VPN, I am the administrator, and no success with a different browser. I'm currently staying with a friend, but I do have a VPN to my home machine, I may give that a try to see if the situation changes. Do you happen to know if the web client behaves differently with respect to login session length if it "senses" that you are accessing from a different geographic region than usual?

Hey @MalIlluminated,

Thanks for your reply!

VPNs can affect the normal connectivity and functionality of the app, so we generally advise against using them. Usually, a VPN can make the security system think that your account is being accessed by multiple unknown locations, which in turn could trigger an automated password reset to your account or log you out of your account, for example. It'd be great if you can turn it off when you're at home and check if the issue persists afterwards.

Keep us posted.
