Having trouble playing songs abroad, but can't change billing address

Hi there!

I am a Spotify premium customer, and since I started living and working in Austria last month, I haven't been able to use my account properly. I get the 'can't play the current song' message almost all the time, and after having a look through some FAQ, I thought it might be because I am using my account abroad, but it is set to the UK still. However, I can't change my billing address/card details to Austria as I want to still pay through my UK bank acccount and don't actually have an Austrian billing address... any ideas?

Edit: I am using wifi when I get these messages, so I know it's not because I am offline.

Hey @becca4000,

Premium customers can always access Spotify of their billing address country as long as unrestricted internet is available. However, if you still wish to change your service to a different country, please follow these steps:

Note: You need a payment method with a billing address in the country.

  1. Go to your Account page here.
  2. Select Subscription in the left panel.
  3. Click UPDATE DETAILS
  4. Click Want to use another payment option? below the card details form.

  1. Click Change Country and select the country you wish to move the account to.
  2. Select a payment method with a billing address in the country.
  3. Confirm the change by clicking CHANGE PAYMENT DETAILS.

Note: Your account will be set to the new country at your next payment date.

Note: Availability of music differs between countries.

hey @maximapple, Thanks for the reply; however, the problem I have is the Note: You need a payment method with a billing address in the country and Select a payment method with a billing address in the country, as the bank account I use to pay for my subscription is registered with my UK address (that I will be going back to, I am only working abroad for the summer.)

The problem I have is being able to change my Country without changing my bank details! Unless there is another reason why my account isn't working, but I think I have narrowed it down to this.

anybody know a solution around this? I want to still be a premium user but there's no reason to carry on paying when I can't play anything unless it's a downloaded playlist 😞 how do people who travel for longer periods of time get around the billing address issue, if they don't have a billing address in that country?

Hey @becca4000,

The "Can't play the current track error" has nothing to do with your account country being set to UK. Unfortunately, there's no way to get around that billing address/payment method thing.

thanks @maximapple - I had a look through the link and uninstalled/reinstalled Spotify, which worked for one song but now plays a bit then stops and says the same message. I have also turned off the "Enable Hardware Acceleration" which I saw worked for someone before, but it hasn't for me, and the same when I deselected then reselected everything in my preferences. There doesn't seem to be a definite fix for this so I think I'm going to save my money and fustrations and cancel my subscription. What a shame! Thanks for the help though.
