So I want to get the student discount but my semester doesn't start until August. Would I be able to get the 3 months of 99¢ Spotify premium and then switch to the student discount once my semester starts?

Yes, this is possible.

And after you've signed into the Student Discount your discount will be applied on your next payment day.

But keep in mind that the 99¢ discount is only for new customers and you can't get this discounts at the same time.
