I closed my account but Spotify claims email is still in use

I closed my account but Spotify claims email is still in use

I had two Spotify accounts. I closed an old unused account that used my primary email address and attempted to use my primary email address with my main account. Whenever I try to change my emai address to my primary email, Spotify states that the email address is still in use even though I closed that account over 7 days ago.  
Spotify claimed that my data would be deleted after 7 days, why is my primary address still claimed to be in use? How do I get Spotify to allow the use of my primary email address?

It can take around 14-30 days for your email address to become available for sign-up again.
