I want to turn off email verification whenever I tried to login

I want to turn off email verification whenever I tried to login

Currently, upon logging in to my account from a new device, I receive an email containing a verification code that must be entered to complete the login process. While I understand the security purpose of this feature, I would like to disable it for convenience reasons.
I have attempted to disable this feature through my account settings, but the option to do so is not available. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with guidance on how to disable this email verification requirement.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt

Hey @31xw4ms6izq2ak2glfb5,

Thanks for reaching out.

Due to security reasons, it's not possible to disable this feature.

Most users likely don't get a new device as often as you do, so they don't get those notifications as often. 🙂

I hope this clears things up!

I appreciate your response, but I'm still not convinced that your reasoning for not allowing users to disable email verification is valid.

You mentioned that most users don't log in from new devices frequently, and therefore don't receive these notifications often. However, Some users, like myself, may switch devices more often than others due to various reasons, such as work, travel, ... is that a problem ??!

Have you noticed that nearly every website and application now gives users the option to enable or disable two-factor authentication?🤔

This is because they recognize that users have different security preferences and needs! I hope you will take my feedback into account.

Hey @31xw4ms6izq2ak2glfb5,

Thanks for getting back.

I've taken another look into this, but right now, it's unfortuntely not possible to disable this security feature. I've made sure to pass your feedback onto Spotify, though 🙂

Device configuration
A laptop with Windows 10, Mozilla Firefox 126.0.1

I've been using Spotify web player on a daily basis since 2020. The device I'm using has not changed. For a few weeks now I've gotten a six-digit verification code query each time when I'm logging in. This verification code is sent to an email address linked to my account.

Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone have a clue how to prevent this? I'd wish to avoid this extra step when logging in.

This probably is because the above also happens not only if you change device but also if you delete cookies or have a dynamic IP or employ any of the other methods used to remain anonymous, maintain privacy or avoid fingerprinting. So maybe you can try to turn those off if this is more important.
As most people always log on the same device and do not employ these precautions, I'm guessing an option to disable email authentication is not a high priority feature that'll be implemented anytime soon, the small increase in danger for the majority of the user base makes it less worth it too. User feedback in general (let alone from this small percentage of undesirable users) is probably also not up there on the company vision during the current time period anyway.

I agree. This measure is not assuring security if anything emails are easiest to be hacked into. Therefore allowing for codes to be sent to an email is not security for the account. People should be able to access their accounts via there unique passwords.

No, this answer is incorrect. I use the same computer every single time, and i am forced to check my email in order to listen to music ever single time. Spotify almost isn't worth the hassle. Not all email servers are equal, Sometimes an email takes 5 or ten minutes. Why should i wait for spotify since y'all don't care about our time, when other music services let you start your music in seconds???

frequently required to re-login and get code from email, there are NO changes to the device or network, this IS a spotify issue, that seems to be specific/related (for me) to web browsers (chrome and safari)

I use the same computer everyday, this is not a new device. 🙄

I agree 100% and worst part is I get these notifications EVERY day while longing in on my browser on the SAME computer. If the app had an EASY way to switch profiles (Duos plan) then I would just use the app but because my wife uses the app, on the SAME home computer, I end up using the web version so we both don't have to log out an login daily!! It's annoying that it happens on the same computer every day!!

I don't switch devices often, but I have my browser set to clear cookies every time I close it, which makes spotify (and everything else I've logged into) believe it's a new device, since there's no cookie to recognize it by. I have a fairly secure password and a password manager to keep my accounts secure, and change them from time to time for extra safety. I would love if there was a way to make logging in with password the default, rather than the verification code, as it is very annoying to have to delete what is effectively a spam email every time I want to use spotify. Or two, really, since it also emails me when I successfully log in.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

This is not for MY protection. Let's not kid ourselves about that. Spotify's enforcement of 2FA via EMAIL (hello, Boomertech much?) led me to cancel my account. I just don't need that kind of intrusion in my life.

I would like to add, this email otp thing maybe the one intervening the login flow on spotify lite. Doesn't matter how many times i change the password, the app says incorrect email or password, all the time. I would like email otp's to be disabled permanently.

I have the same issue. I intentionally don't save cookies in my browser. The spam mail for every login is unnecessary. This isn't for but against security. You're making it needlessly hard for me to not give you any more of my data than you already have...

I listen to music at work. The browser settings, cookies management, and internet protection are all completely outside of my control as these are set by the organisations system administrators. I am signing in on the same computer and browser every day, and every day I get a new verification email instead of just allowing me to use my email and password. I work in a laboratory, so I do not have easy access to my phone while at work. Spotify, by refusing to allow this "feature" to be switched off, is making putting on background music at work an actively hostile process. In addition to that, it clogs up my inbox. This is making it more convenient to simply put on a random internet radio channel. The "security" argument holds no real weight, if security was a genuine concern Spotify would have implemented true MFA instead of this half-measure. Realistically, this also presents a privacy concern, requiring users to save cookies to achieve basic functionality is not a privacy-conscious stance (it also would not surprise me if this was at odds with the EU's GDPR). Extremely disappointed, and seriously considering migrating to a competitor who puts fewer barriers in the way of common use-cases
