Nonexistent Username

Does anyone else find it quite frustrating that we are unable to choose our own usernames? I have no desire to link my account to my Facebook, seeing as how I would prefer for my full name NOT to show up as my display name.

It makes it rather difficult to share my profile with my Instagram followers and find other friends of mine. If I suggest that they search my display name (Jillian), they'll be forced to scroll through hundreds of other Jillians that show up. Is there an easier way for them to find me and vice versa that I am unaware of?
