How do I get a refund for the time that they have enabled "Connect" feature when I cancel my acccount? This feature has essentially ruined Spotify for me, so I want to cancel and get  my money back.

well i heard that the spotify connect feature will be disabled but im not sure at all. So if i was you i would stay at spotify. If you want to get your money back you should contact the spotify team through this contact form here 😉 But the chances are very low to get your money back because i think that they included already something in the terms of service about getting money back while updates 😉

If I was you I'd first cancel my subscription and wait before changing the service. The official Spotify team listens to feedback and is working on a solution according to Spotify Connect that works for everyone. In the meantime you can vote for this submission(and all of its sub-ideas) of our ideas exchange: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Make-Spotify-Connect-a-choice/idi-p/729015 leave your comments/kudos there to support the idea.

By the way, I'm not sure which device you are using but there is a workaround for Android to disconnect from the feature here: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Android/UNOFFICIAL-GUIDE-How-to-disable-Spotify-Connect/td-p/97...
