Spotify Family Same Country Error

Spotify Family Same Country Error

Hi all,

I have a problem with activation of my Spotify Family premium account. My friend has invited me, we have the same country set up (Poland), but the code still won't activate, and I recieve a following message:

"We couldn't add you to the Family plan as your account needs to be based in the same country as the Family plan owner. "

Now, the only thing that comes to my mind is that I originally my account was Swedish due to proxy I'm using. However, I changed this setting to the country of my residence (Poland).

Who can I contact about this problem? Perhaps the Family program has a validation system that checks the original value entered as the country of residence instead of the updated one?

Can anyone help? This might be the first time ever I'm inclined to pay for online music and it's quite sad to think I might have wasted my money and won't be able to enjoy the premium account 😞

I have the same problem and this makes me really, really angry !

I´m a paying spotify user using the family plan (4 members)  for over a year and I´m really thinking about migrating the whole family to Apple Music now (would even be cheaper) !

The error message my son get´s is something about "wrong country". He has country code "de" and I have country code "DE", so it seems as if their stupid programmers do not consider upper and lower case. I also can´t change any of the country codes ...

I have managed to fix this. The "DE" is an old value while "de" is a new one. So what you need to do is to set the account with "DE" to "de". The problem is that if you already have a subscription, you cannot edit your country in the account profile details (the box is greyed out). Here is what you do to fix it (instructions are pretty technical and intended for Firefox but every browser has this functionality now).

1) Press F12 to open web debugger panel

2) Navigate the page to account details / edit profile

3) In the debugger panel, in top left corner, click the little icon with mouse arrow and box.

4) Click on the country field in the page that is greyed out - a text will be marked and somewhere near there will be disabled="disabled"

5) Doubleclick this text to enter edit mode and delete the whole disabled="disabled"

6) Press enter to exit edit mode

7) The field on the website will now be editable.

😎 Click it and select the only option, in your case Germany.

9) Save profile.

Congratulations, it will now work.

I have the same issue, followed the steps but unfortunately it didn't work.

Thanks for the help though.

well do you have the country with the same case now in both accounts?

Yes, it's both 'fr' and 'fr' (without the quotes, ofc).
I've tweeted @SpotifyCares about the issue.

That is very strange, this totally did it for me. And are you sure that you receive the same error? About the country not being the same?

Well, now that's awkward. I tried again to redeem the code in order to give
you the exact message, and this time it worked.
Must have been some kind of transient issue, case solved.
Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem now - we are both based in DK but gives the error each and every time - very frustrating!
