Spotify desktop client communication failed

Hi! 

I'm trying to log in to my Spotify account on my MAC but get this error message in a new window: "Spotify desktop client communication failed". Any ideas of what I should do?

Are you trying to login with Facebook?

If so, can you try these steps below? It worked for some people.

1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security&view
2. On the line App Passwords click Edit
3. Click the Generate App Passwords link
4. Click the Generate App Passwords button
5. Enter a friendly name for what this is for i.e. Spotify
6. Click Generate Password
7. Copy the password in the normal spotify logon password box.
8. enter your FB email address as the username

Not solved.  I still get it each time..  and Facebook works like a champ

the funny bit is I am able to get to the spotify community via the web using facebook, but not the application...
