My Question or Issue
For several months (pretty much years at this point), my Spotify friends feed has not been updating, it only shows 1 friend I have, while it should have a dozen others. This has been going on for far too long for it to be a problem on my end as I have changed my devices, settings, and other things to try and fix it. I have reinstalled Spotify and my OS but nothing helps. I also see no friends through my Facebook integration even after disconnecting and reconnecting my Facebook profile multiple times. All my settings are the same as my friends and he can see his friend activity but I can't. I already posted about this problem once, and was told it would fix itself but that was months ago. This is very infuriating as it has been going for so long.
Solved! Go to Solution.
We have seen the reports of people saying Friend Feed is not working for them, and we are happy to investigate specific cases, because as far as we are aware, there are no issues with Friend Feed working.
Firstly, it’s important to restate that ALL users had “Share my listening activity on Spotify” turned off as default - so users you followed and saw in your Friend Feed in the past, will no longer show in your Friend Feed, UNLESS they turned “Share my listening activity on Spotify” back on.
Also worth noting that you don’t need Facebook set up for Friend Feed to work.
Having said that, all of the below must be true for users to show in your Friend Feed:
If all of this is true for you and your friend and they don’t show up in your Friend Feed, then:
Once we have this we can do some checking. Thanks all.
Hi @czubizzle,
Thanks for the post.
Sorry to hear that you still can't see the listening activity of your friends.
Your friends need to manually toggle the option Share my listening activity on Spotify on, since this option was set as off by default recently. More info here.
We'd recommend reaching out to them and checking if they have the option turned on. Otherwise they won't show up in your friends list.
Let us know if that's the case.
Are they working to resolve this issue or are they claiming that they're on the case and not giving it a single thought? I still don't have anyone on my friend feed and it is immensely frustrating. Roll back the update because it's caused nothing but problems for everyone.
I am not able to see FRIENDS ACTIVITY at all on Windows 10. It keeps telling me to Enable 'Share my listening activity on Spotify'. I have tried below and nothing works
-Tried switching the toggle off and on multiple times.
-Connected FACEBOOK yet no change.
-Tried logging out, cleared cache, and re-login.
-Uninstalled and restarted the system and tried reinstall.
Please help !!! This is the only reason I am on Spotify and helps me best to discover songs and artists.
I am experiencing the same issue here!!!! Tried all those above and nothing.
It's not all my friends though. It seems to be random accounts that keep missing for me. And I've checked with my friends, they also have the 'Share my listening activity on Spotify' option enabled, so I don't know why we can see each other. I tried both on my phone and desktop, nothing seems to work.
@Spotify, help us?
I have the same problem past few months reagrdless of me and my friends choose to share our listening activity ;( I don't see anyone on my friends activity accept 1 person, I actually stopped using stopify cause of that it's so depressing ... It was so nice being able to see what friends listening too and I could share my real time music too
my heart keeps breaking every time i log into spotify desktop app and don’t see anyone in my friends list. this is a joke !!!
is there any chance this will be reverted?
I'm a little surprised to see this much passion behind the social features of Spotify. I do love to see my friends' activity. The default sharing ON isn't perfect, but I think it's better than simply defaulting to OFF. I would like to see sharing default to ON with a pop up modal or something that asks users if they want to hide their activity, or just increase awareness for private sessions.
Spotify has actually been really good about rolling out new features and supporting them well (lyrics, Apple Watch support, UI)) in my opinion. I think it would be a quick win for a lot of people.
Hi people/ @felipe1195 ,
So yesterday, I tried a couple of more things and I figured, If your friends haven't played anything in the last 24 hours, it will still give the prompt of "Enabling listening activity" in place of something like "No recent activity".
Please do try these below steps once. These suck but worked for me.
-Unfollow and follow the friends again.
-Logout and login back.
-Make sure friend has Listening activity on too. (Lot of my friends didn't know that it is off now for them). If they turn it on from off, it is best if they logout and login back after it.
-Ask your friend to play some song and see if it reflects on your sidebar.
Let me know if it helps.
Spotify please fix this!
I always loved seeing my friends activity on Spotify and also discovering new music this way. Now it feels so alone. And if you don't want to or can't solve this, maybe you know which music service does show their friends activity? Asking for a friend.

Thanks, but that's not it, Jeremy. How do I see the music that the people I am following are playing, not only my Facebook friends? They used to appear together in Friend Activity, but now I would have to click on the individual's profile to see what they've listened to (sharing settings ARE enabled!) and isn't that just a little "stalker-ish" not to mention time-consuming? If the Friend Activity area is now for Facebook only, can you guys give us a "Your Following is Now Playing..." tab so we don't miss out on this social aspect completely?
Hello,
me and my friends have had the same problem with our friend feed for a while now. We all checked our settings and everyone has enabled the option to share his music, furthermore, I have reinstalled Spotify several times, logged in and out several times and checked the forums for answers. None of the suggested solutions seem to work, neither for me nor for others. The weird thing is, that it is not even the same people that aren't shown in the friend feed. There are some friends that see my activity, yet others can't see it. They however can see completely different accounts even though the friends are mutual. I have looked into this problem for quite a while now and it is very annoying as there don't seem to be any proper solutions and a vital part of my possabilities to discover new music through friends is gone. I hope someone can help me with this issue (all use Windows 10)
why are spotify ignoring this and not responding 😭😡🤬
No they are not working on this issue. What you're experiencing is exactly what they wanted to happen, this update was on purpose so they don't consider they have an "issue" to fix. And clearly they don't seem to want to listen at all regardless of the slew of comments on this topic. It is frankly concerning how they refuse to even enter the conversation.
If you find out let me know! I've been with Spotify since 2016 but I'll switch. This platform has no ethics whatsoever. Dodging their community's outcry the way they have for so long on this topic while letting them keep yap without so much as a reaction means only one thing: they have bigger fish to fry. Like promoting controversial podcast while letting legends go... Trust one thing: they couldn't care less about "how it makes us feel" to no longer have access to the one feature making Spotify unique. Well Im no longer attached to this particular pond.
Look at that they "responded":

Completely out of it and offering no revert. They won't bring it back let's just find a new platform Spotify's only downhill from here. They even go as far as taking the time to reply but use the same bogus speech every time. It is what it is basically is what they're telling us. I just wish they were upfront about it and clearly stated "We will not revert the update. Get used to it.". That at least would be honest and people would stop wasting their time thinking they're actually taking all this into consideration.
Please revert back to a default of ON for sharing. You're sucking the social life out of Spotify. Was a favorite feature. Let people know they can switch to OFF, sure.
yikes, cant believe this is still a thing
