Spotify unable to save payment details or uses old payment details?

My payment/subscribtion has failed every month (on renewal date) since I got my new Visa card in February. Although the subscription page shows **** **** **** xxxx (x = last digits of my existing Visa card), which seems to be correct, I still need to update my payment details. When the payment details are updated (which basically is to register the details from the same card once again) the payment goes through.

Is it possible that Spotify still uses payment details from the old/previous card  on renewal date?
