Using gift card to change country

Solved!

Using gift card to change country

Plan

Premium

Country

Australia

My Question or Issue

I was wondering if I use a Canadian e gift card (visa / Mastercard, not a Spotify gift card), then will my account have its location updated to Canada?

I wanted to change location from Australia to Canada for travel but I don’t have a Canadian card so I was wondering if this was a work around. I’ve also considered using Wise but the card’s BIN probably tells Spotify that it was issued in Australia even though it’s loaded in CAD.

Hey again, @AnnaJancz,

Thanks for getting back to me.

When it comes to using a prepaid Visa card, I can’t guarantee it’ll work for updating your payment method directly—those can be a bit hit or miss depending on how they were issued.

What you can do instead is cancel your current subscription and wait for your account to revert to Free. Once that happens, you’ll be able to update your country setting to Canada using the dropdown menu as shown here.

After that, you should be able to redeem a Spotify Gift Card—just make sure the card is valid for use in Canada.

If that prepaid Visa works for purchasing a Canadian Spotify Gift Card, that route might be your best bet. Let me know how things go! 🙂

Hey @AnnaJancz,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you’re only visiting Canada and already have an active Premium subscription, there’s no need to update your payment method or country setting—your account will continue working just fine while you’re abroad.

That said, if you’re now based in Canada and have a Canadian payment method, you can update your payment details through your account page.

Just make sure to scroll down and select Canada at the bottom of the page before choosing your payment method. Your account’s country setting will then update automatically on your next billing date.

Let me know if you run into any trouble 🙂

Hi Maxim,

I was trying to update my location to Canada but since I don’t have a Canadian card yet, it didn’t work.
So until I get one, could I just use a pre paid visa gift card or similar as a Canadian payment method? Will that be accepted and will it be recognised as a Canadian issued card?

Thank you!
