Why can't I pay with my gift cards?

My Question or Issue

I have two gift cards for Spotify, and a Premium Duo account, for which I am charged $16.99 a month. (I don't understand why there isn't a option to save a little money by paying for the whole year in advance, but that's another matter.) Every time I try to apply a gift card to my account, I get an error message I don't understand. If I'm paying full-price for a regular, Premium account, why can't I use the balance of a gift card to pay for it?

Thanks for coming to the Community.

Unfortunately, you can’t apply a gift card on discounted plans like Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers. They can only be used for the Premium Individual plan.
