Why was my password reset without my permission?

Why was my password just reset on my account without my knowledge or permission? I got this email a few days ago:

"Hi

To protect your Spotify account, we've reset your password due to detected suspicious activity.

You need to create a new password to log back in. Just click the big green button."

Why on earth was this just done? Why not warn me about, or at least give me a notice to change my password? Why did Spotify take it upon themselves to just reset my password out of nowhere?

This is NOT alright.
