Android App Battery Drain

I have noticed the spotify app is draining my battery since the last update even when spotify is being used on my Laptop.

Example :

1am restarted phone and plugged in to charge overnight
8am woke up, unconnected phone
10am phone down to 80%

I checked battery stats and 40% of the battery drain was down to the Spotify app even though i hadn't started or used it. However i had been using it on my laptop.

Phone : Samsung Galaxy S6
OS : Android Marshmellow 6.0.1
Spotify Version : 5.5.0.653

I have stopped the batery drain by force stopping the app on my phone.

This is still happening. 

Yesterday I have only used spotify on my laptop, i didn't even start it up on my mobile phone but the app has consumed 20% of my mobile phone battery by the end of the day. 

This is ever since update, 5.5.0.653.

It is causing my mobile phone not to last all day, if it isn't sorted soon i will be uninstalling the app and cancelling my subscription.

I can't get it to stop. I may cancel. It drains my battery quickly.
