My Question or Issue

I'm unable to get spotify to ignore android notifications. When a notification happens, the music pauses for the notification sound. I've tried Do Not Disturb and turning Sound to Mute, but it keeps happening. How can I fix this issue?

It pauses my phone even if I'm not connected to a Bluetooth device. STILL. Ugh. Super peeved.

It pauses for me coming out my phone loud speaker, wire headphones and bluetooth speaker.

I've experienced the same problem. (Android 13, Pixel 6 Pro, Spotify 8.8.44.527)

Please give us the ETA for the fix or guidance on the refund.

It completely breaks the experience for users who receive notifications often like every minute.

I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (SM-S918B/DS, Android 13 / One UI 5.1, Spotify 8.8.48.523)

Seeing this post this has been going on for full-on 3 years. It might be time to address this issue and give us a fix.

Just upgraded from an S22 plus to S23 plus today and started getting this issue as well. Music pauses any time a notification comes through Teams, Messenger, Messages, etc.

I've been having this issue too, S23, since it's been going on for so long I doubt they're looking into it let's be honest

I actually have the opposite request - I would like to hear Whatsapp messages when they arrive, because I receve few of them and they are more important to me than the music. But I guess it all boils down to have some configuration possibility in Spotify that currently doesn't exist.

Likewise same issue on a Samsung Fold 4 - stops playback any time I get an alert/notification of any kind. Sometimes it continues, but most of the time I have to hit play again - pretty frustrating

I've updated from Samsung S10 plus to S23 Ultra, when I'd been using the S10 Plus it was fixed and Spotify continues playing the music in the same volume when I received a notification, now using the S23 Ultra I experience Spotify turns down the volume for a few seconds when I receive any kind of notification.

I'm having the same issue. I have had do not disturbed on and had it custom tailored multiple different ways, the standard no sound, and the no sound or visual, still happens notifications volume is completely off and it will still happen. Tried on Motorola stylus 5g 2021, Motorola stylus 2023, and lg k51. Deleted app reinstalled, logged out and logged back in and tried on Hisense smart TV and no interruptions, and a windows 11 PC and the issue doesn't occured. Only when Spotify is being used with Android system devices. Has there been any headway with this issue because it starting to increase on frequency of it happening.

Ok so i posted 7 days ago about this issue and began switching to amazon music, well apparently they had a problem with it closing due to inactivity, so i tried to resolve that and it worked so i applied the same method to spotify and it worked. no more music stopping when notifications come in. Setting>Apps>Spotify>Battery> UNRESTRICTED. yes this may eat up more of your battery but so far all day notifications have been coming in and im still listening to music. hopefully this helps the next person.

Didn't help me exactly, but a good idea, nonetheless. Mine is already set to unrestricted. Still having issues unfortunately.

Ill test this over the next few days, fingers crossed!

Almost 2024 and this is still an issue. I have castbox, poweramp, audible, youtube and youtube music all working fine. On what planet muting your phone and only allowing Spotify to make sounds is a viable solution?

This worked for me

I'm on nothing phone 1, allowing unrestricted battery usage did not change anything.

This only happens for spotify and it's ridiculous.

It even happens when you're inside the spotify app, so I doubt it's an issue with power saving. This is unusable. I try to listen to podcasts during long car rides and every time I get a notification I have to look at my phone and continue playback.

So this must be a new problem or the old one returned. It now even stops playback after each navigation instruction, this sucks bad. I even restarted my phone.

I no longer have this issue.  I have no idea what fixed it.  It may have been me changing settings or it may have been an update to the Spotify app.  I was aware that my Sony over the ear headphones stopped having the problem before my Sony buds stopped having the problem.

Android, Samsung S21+
I listen music or podcasts, when notification arrives track is paused for a second or less.
Spotify is only app on my phone that have such a behaviour. All other apps do not pause track, they just lower volume of track for that short period of time.
How to set that in Spotify?
