Every 3rd or so time when I open the app (or any time I clear the app's cache in the system settings and then reopen it), I am presented with the login screen. I'll sign in either via password or Google Account, but the issue ends up reappearing later. Recently, it will sign me out when I'm in the middle of listening to a playlist, and when I want to change a song, I have to force quit the app so the music stops so I can sign in and change the song.

I have already:

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the app
  • Switched between beta and stable update on Play Store
  • Restarting my device
  • Checked for app and OS updates

My app is currently on version 9.1.50.1623

Thanks for reaching out via the Community and for including the troubleshooting steps you've already gone over. It helps us with the investigation.

 

Could you confirm if you keep being logged out despite the network connection (mobile data/Wi-Fi)?

 

Since this is happening on a new operating system, Android could be trying too hard to save battery power. It aggressively shuts down apps running in the background, which breaks Spotify's connection in the middle of a song and that's why it kicks you out.

 

In order to fix this:

  • Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Spotify > App battery usage/Battery and switch it to Unrestricted.
  • Sign out everywhere from your account via the Account Page here (in order to clear your active server tokens). 
  • Clear the cache within Spotify's Settings.

I have tried the steps you suggested and the issue still occurs for me. The issue is also seeming to be present on my tablet running an older version of Android (I have also tried the diagnostic steps there). The issue does seem to be independent of connection type (WiFi/mobile data), but I did also try turning on unrestricted data usage for the app in Android settings as I had previously experienced issues that this resolved. However, I am still getting signed out multiple times a day, although it seems to be happening slightly less frequently.

You mentioned you use Spotify on several devices. When the issue occurs, do you get logged out on all of them or just on the one you most recently used? If you're using any settings or third-party apps that manage your device's storage automatically, make sure Spotify is added as an exception.

 

Something else that comes to mind is checking this would still happen when using another account. You can ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your device temporarily and see if they can reproduce the same behavior.
