App uses a LOT of space on internal storage

App uses a LOT of space on internal storage

and it's ridiculous! come on, i sign the service and save my tracks offline, but not only the offline songs are saved, ALL that i hear is saved, and create a monstruous cache. And then, if i delete the cache, all my offline songs gone too, the app have a lot of years and devs don't fix this problem, don't fix on iOS, don't fix on Android... Unforgivable. I deleted the cache last night and today the same, i'm done with this

I used the "delete cache" ootion, and relaunched, had to log in again.  Size went from 5.6Gb to 3.8Gb.  So, that's not enough to get the app down to a reasonable size.

Wondering what I did different from people who deleted their cache and got the size down to 1Gb.

I just found that i can use my sd card instead of my internal storage. Go to my library then scroll down and go to storage ( on app ).

Then select sd instead of the storage and this shall do the trick.

It is for storage of downloaded music, that is not the problem discussed in
this thread. Spotify app writes on your device internal memory while
streaming...

The only real way to erase everything is to do a factory reset and
re-install Spotify 😣

Spotify fix your app. This has been an issue for well over a year. Why are you not listening to your paying customers?

Are you sure that hitting "clear data" won't delete all of my playlists? that's the only thing that has kept me from doing it. It's gotten to the point where my phone has a constant notification telling me that my storage space is running out and that I can't update my apps. and, like everyone else here, the main problem is Spotify taking up all my space.

The Android app is about 32 MB but even though I have zero songs downloaded/offline Spotify was taking up about 2.2 GB on my phone just now. Also, it's a new phone. I've only had it for about a month. Is there an option to not have the app cache songs or art?

Also annoyed by this: me.

It won't delete the playlists from your Spotify account, it will basically just sign you out of Spotify. You'll have to re-sign-in and your playlists will still be there but if you want them offline, you'll have to download them again.

Same problem: more than 9GB used (premium account)...

Unbelievable Spotify doesn't look into this.

I like it how that "community legend" hopped in with that useless copy-paste reply like we are some primates, and when things went south he vanished into thin air.

Anyways, just got myself into this problem. Gonna 1star them on GPlay, cause this forum seems useless as well.

Community Legends are just ordinary users like you. They don't work for Spotify.

Follow all the steps here to reclaim all storage used by the app and start over. Any downloaded music will need to be redownloaded.

Irrespective of your android version, I recommend going to go to Storage > Android > Data and deleting the folder called com.spotify.music if it still exists.

And Sir Joe comes to defend his people.

This problem is plain and simple. There are no steps that need following or instructions to be read.

This can only be fixed by the development team. And you are not part of that team as you stated you do not work for Spotify. Can you inform the devs about this problem? Because if you cannot then both of you made two useless posts.

I will not follow those steps because that is not a fix but rather a workaround. A very inconvenient workaround. A disgusting workaround for a service I pay. My phone is not a PC with 1+ terrabyte HDD! It is absurd for the app to perma cache all the stream it has done!

I think it's time for all of us to bombard Spotify's social media platforms and take this conversation out of this forum and into more visible eyes. Twitter is quite effective for this, but let's do as many as you can. Who else is in to run a campaign?

I will be spamming their comment section with on every new post with a link to this thread and how unsatisfied everyone here is with no response on this issue.... i encourage everyone to do the same so that their moderators AT LEAST are bothered by more work, which is the best we can do for our inconvenience thus far.

edit:  already got an auto response directing me to SpotifyCares on facebook to chat with support.  will update here

All you have to do is delete your spotify data and sign back in I go from 9.7gb to 205mb while keeping my playlists

Go to my files, storage, android, data, find the one that has spotify in the midst of the file name, delete whatever is not cashe, like whatever is multiple gigs, make sure in the app permissions Is set to non in storage and the app will work strictly with cashe and data

Hey!

I totally know what you're going through. Spotify uses about 700mb on your phone, which is really quite a bit of space. I'd recommend transferring your data to an SD card to free up some space.

Hope this helps.

Same problem---premium user and stock holder--and search brought me here.  Deleted the cache files and this helped for the moment.  This is seriously unbecoming for a 27 billion dollar company.  I think it is time to bring this issue up at the company's earnings conference call.  The Problem and also customer service's lack of care.
