Audio Quality Settings (Data Saver) Bug

Audio Quality Settings (Data Saver) Bug

Environment: Android
Feature: Audio Quality Settings (Data Saver)

Description: Spotify provides separate media quality settings for WiFi and Cellular connections to help users prevent cellular data overuse. However, the app applies the "WiFi profile" as soon as it detects any active WiFi connection, even if that connection does not provide internet access (i.e., it is not the default route).

The Problem (Use Case): This logic fails during commonplace scenarios like using Wireless Android Auto (WAA). WAA establishes a local WiFi connection between the phone and the car's media unit, but the phone continues to route actual internet traffic through the cellular network. Because Spotify only checks for the presence of a WiFi connection, it activates the high-quality "WiFi profile," resulting in unintended and costly cellular data consumption.

Expected Behavior: Spotify should verify that the active WiFi connection is the actual route for internet traffic before applying the WiFi quality settings. If the device is routing internet over cellular, the cellular quality settings should apply.

I completely understand how this could result in unintended data consumption. Thank you for the detailed feedback.
