Bluetooth controls while using Spotify

I have my Fossil Smartwatch gen 2 and my Samsung Level U connected on my phone, Android Version 7.0, Spotify Version 8.4.32.623 armV7. Well, everything works fine, I can use the volume controls, skip songs, browse playlists on my watch. Only issue is I cannot pause the songs. At all. I thought it was a Bluetooth issue but I tried other music Apps, YouTube, etc. And they all work, just Spotify is where the issue lies. I resetted the app, restarted my phone, installed/uninstalled, and it works fine at first but over time, it happens again. Anyone else experience something similar?
