My Question or Issue

seemingly out of nowhere yesterday I went to shuffle a playlist like I always do and immediately noticed the song was glitchy, playing in second intervals. I restarted the app, phone, logged out, clean uninstall - the only thing I haven't done is hard reset my phone.

However I did notice something really strange when trying to record evidence of this. When I screen record, the song buffers for a second, and then plays like normal! Only until I stop screen recording. I have no idea what's up with that.

My other Spotify account works on this device.

The account that isnt working works on other devices.

All other streaming services are fine on my phone and the problem persists on wifi or data.

I've seen a lot of unresolved threads with a similar issue and seen a few solved with methods that did not work for me. Also I talked to support 4 times today for a total of like 2 hours and really got no where. One dude even gave me an out of service phone number to call after I reset my phone per his instruction.

Anybody have any clue what could be going on ?

I have the same device and the same issue starting happening for me around Friday as well, although strangely for me my music plays fine but podcasts will play and stop every second, stuttering as you described. Please let me know if you find a solution and I will do likewise 🙂

Hey Ben,  thanks for the reply. This is the weirdest and really only serious problem I've ever had with Spotify. First of all,

I. Cannot. Believe. Spotify does not have a method to solve this issue. I've seen so many people complain of a similar issue and often times it went unresolved. This rendered my account entirely useless. I am unsure wherein the issues lies specifically and customer support had no idea either. So like if I didn't figure something out I would've had to just quit Spotify after 4 years or get a new phone?

But anyway man listen, I found out that if I close the app, go into my files, delete the entire folder containing Spotify data, and then re-open Spotify... It works perfectly - until I close the app.

So I've been deleting the files and opening the app once maybe twice every time I want to listen to music. It sucks. I have my computer science major brother with me digging into files trying to figure out wherein the issue lies - but it's a little futile I feel like to solve this issue we need the combined power of the Spotify staff and people who understand android code to see what causes this. I don't know - hope this helps - hope somebody can add further information or examples

This is a spotify problem most likely. I'm having the same problem on my Windows 7 machine. It just started today after using spotify trouble-free for the last six months.

I have the same phone and I've been experiencing this for the last couple weeks as well.

Songs play fine, however when I try to listen to any podcast it begins to get choppy and stutter, like it's having an issue buffering.

My partner doesn't have this issue and we're on the same account.

Also, the Spotify web browser works fine but the app still has the problem even after deleting it, clearing caches and reboots.

Verizon Q70 choppy playback on spotify. App is useless. All other streaming platforms work as normal.Come Spotify,I'm not going to continue paying for an app I cant use, nevermind the days I should be reimbursed for having a non addressed non working app.I've been with you for ten years. What a joke.

Yeah it is bs man , I would love to hear from somebody from Spotify about this. Still no fix/
Unresolved

What if we download our playlist? Would the be a work around?

No, I tried everything. Something is wrong between the app and the kernel we use I think.

Not the same issue. This issue is with all media played.

I am having the same issue with podcasts only. It doesn't matter if it's on wifi or data, downloaded or streamed. It's only on my LG Q70. If I log into a computer it's fine. Stange though, when I play through my sonos app the playback smooths out immediately and it's fine. I have also tried all the 'solutions' across this community site with no result.

LG Q70 Andriod (unmodified) from Bell in Canada with my paid student account.

No it doesn't have anything to do with actual connection issues

just to update, I tried everything suggest on all related forum posts I could find. Nothing worked.

In the end I reinstalled spotify and re-started my computer. That seems to have fixed the issue for now.

Noticing the same thing on OSX for the first time ever this morning.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this and sharing your info with the Community.

On android devices - could you try to remove your SD card and perform a clean reinstall of the app. After that check if everything works as it should, before inserting the card back in the device. Let us know if that makes a difference.

@findchris, could you tell us if the issue still persists? If you've already done a clean reinstall of the app and it doesn't work properly, tell us the exact OS version of your device and your Spotify version.

Keep us posted.

I can confirm the issue persists. I am on Android Pixel 3A (latest OS). I did a clean reinstall. The issue can be replicated by trying to play a podcast on the device. After a variable period of time the playback becomes choppy. The same podcast plays on google home devices without issue when streamed through spotify, it also plays fine on an ipad. I also downloaded the episode to verify it was network related.

A response would be appreciated as it is making on-device spotify entirely un-usable.

Hey @Boffy,

Thanks for getting in touch with us 🙂

It sounds like this could be a device-related issue. If you have any battery optimization or power saving apps, we'd suggest you deactivate them for Spotify. You can also give these steps a go.

If you use SD card, you can check it for errors (try moving the data to your device's internal memory and remove the SD card)

Keep us posted! If you have questions, we are here for you.

Issue resolved with last update, about a week ago. This was not a "device issue".

FYI: for anyone posting about podcast-only issue, this is the wrong thread. Congratulations on failing the reading test.

Update: About 4 months later my Spotify suddenly works without problem again. Possibly the new update that was rolled out? Thank you?
