My Question or Issue

seemingly out of nowhere yesterday I went to shuffle a playlist like I always do and immediately noticed the song was glitchy, playing in second intervals. I restarted the app, phone, logged out, clean uninstall - the only thing I haven't done is hard reset my phone.

However I did notice something really strange when trying to record evidence of this. When I screen record, the song buffers for a second, and then plays like normal! Only until I stop screen recording. I have no idea what's up with that.

My other Spotify account works on this device.

The account that isnt working works on other devices.

All other streaming services are fine on my phone and the problem persists on wifi or data.

I've seen a lot of unresolved threads with a similar issue and seen a few solved with methods that did not work for me. Also I talked to support 4 times today for a total of like 2 hours and really got no where. One dude even gave me an out of service phone number to call after I reset my phone per his instruction.

Anybody have any clue what could be going on ?

What a useful tip, presented in the most unpleasant way.

Chiming in as this has started happening to me both on my phone, iPad, and laptop and I'm slowly driving myself crazy trying every possible option to troubleshoot on my own.

Running iOS (14.4.2)/macOS (Big Sur 11.3.1) and noticed this issue started worsening this month (May 2021) when I updated my Spotify software on all my devices, twice for my laptop/desktop app. Of course, the most noticeable change upon opening was an appearance refresh and a new feel for filtering/sorting.
Have found older posts like this one online noting clearing cache/dropping quality to Normal instead of High/Very High has helped others, but no luck here. Force quit doesn't sustain a fix, and sometimes this is carrying over from one device to another.

Hoping these details can further a more sustainable solution!

Hey there @sharlie13

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community, and welcome 🙂

Would you mind letting us know if you've tried any other troubleshooting steps? This will help us give you better suggestions.

It would also be helpful to know the exact Spotify version currently running on your devices.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Skipping music playback in the app has been bothering me for the last few months on both my Pixel 3XL, Samsung S8, and Linux. I've tried everything from clearing cache through to re-installing, and I've even tried other accounts. Even turning the playback quality down to low doesn't solve the issue.

This is the same issue Google Play suffered from a few years ago, which made me switch to Spotify. However, between this, the poor UI (pushing unwanted podcasts), and the general lack of care over the usability from Spotify, I'm now looking elsewhere.

Hey @SEoF,

Thanks for posting here 🙂

The troubleshooting steps that you've tried so far are very good.

Could you share with us the following? We'll look into this further.

  • Device + OS version
  • Exact Spotify version
  • Video recording of the issue

Keep us posted.

EVEN IF IT'S THE DEVICE, YOU WORK WITH THE DEVELOPERS, NOT US!!!!!

IF SPOTIFY WON'T WORK ON A DEVICE, SPOTIFY NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS!!!!

It's a bunch of different phones doing the same EXACT THING!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP LYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suddenly started having this issue with my Samsung S10E after setting up a Sonos speaker.  I noticed that if I force kill the Sonos app from the app info page, playback through my phone speaker eventually returns to normal after a few seconds.  Hopefully this information leads to a fix.

It's been happening to me lately and I'm not sure why so I've just been off of Spotify waiting for it to stop glitching but it's been happening less. I just don't know why. My computer is fine, my internet is fine too. It just doesn't stop stuttering for the first few minutes before the actual song just goes back to normal.. this gotta be fixed. It's already 2022..

Started to experience this same issue yesterday on Denon AVR streaming trough Spotify Connect. Stuttering playback every now and then, never had any issues before. Internet is stable 200 Mbits. Since it’s SC device there’s nothing else I can do than restart the AVR which doesn’t fix anything. However, pausing the music and starting the playback again seems to help, but only until the next track starts playing. Definately seems like a buffering issue.

Edit: Not 100 percent sure but it could be that Spotify is finally bringing the Normalizer function to Spotify Connect devices, at least it sounds like that. The stuttering playback (at this time) could be related to that due to the update not being fully functional yet.
