Control Spotify with gear s3

Solved!

Control Spotify with gear s3

Hello,

I have had Spotify for quite some time now and still love it. I used to have an Asus Zen Watch 2.  When this died I got the Gear S3. With the Zen watch I could control Spotify without looking at my phone.  Now fast forward to the gear S3. It will play the music on the watch which is awesome. But if I'm at the gym and I want to change tracks I'd like to. I can only seem to get it to play on the watch or play on the phone. I can not use the gear to control it.  When I do I receive this message.

Operation is not supported if the device is not the active playback device.

Any ideas why it won't let me control it?

Thanks!

Josh

The watch supports two modes - streaminf from the phone and controlled by the watch or streamed from the watch. If you go to the spotify app on your watch, you can select which mode you want to use there by selecting the watch or mobile icon.

Dude I'm litteraly on the same quest here. But check what I just saw:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akm-yDHpF5Q That guy has a complete different menu under settings. I think we're getting punished for having an iPhone again... Unless somebody could enlighten me here...

I got it! We are officially saved my man. Skip the settings thing in spotify. Just open Spotify on your iPhone. As it is playing, open the regular musicplayer on your watch (green icon with white music-key). Then tap on the watch-icon upper-right. It will change in your phone and it will load the Spotify thing. Solved.

or at least, you have a simplefied control of the current playlist. You can't do much else..

Thanks Joe. I didn't realize I had to change it to remote to control my phone. It works like a charm.  Thanks!

Amazing news! Changing tracks was like the main thing I was after. Hats off to you, good sir. May you live long & prosper!

Sucks that you cannot pick stuff directly from the list, you only can change to the next track in queue ;(

Yes you can, just install the spotify app

Yes you can change the play list but then the songs will start on your watch.after that you should do to the regular music app and manually change to the phone. It's unbelievable how unfunctional the spotify app is on the gear...

You waste so much money for an iPhone and the gear s3 and the spotify premium subscription... And then you recieve such service!
