Download Without Using Data

I just bought spotify because I would like to listen to my music without wifi and mostly, without going over my data limit. I was hoping that it was across the app, so I could download on my computer and it would show up on my phone, but I guess that's not how it works. 

So how can I hook up to wifi, download my songs, and not be using up my phone's data? I tried to download at home while hooked up to wifi and nothing would download. How does all of this work?
