I think I have found the issue, every time you open a website in ANY web browser (even full fledged browsers like Vivaldi or Edge that are not using Android System WebView) or an app using Android System WebView, if this website uses the video function (and maybe the sound but I think only the video) of HTML5, Spotify will automatically run! Not only that, even if you don't have Bluetooth antenna of the phone activated (as in, from the drawer menu on top, no active Bluetooth connection), even if the Bluetooth (hidden service) has been forced stop, Spotify will start the service!
While the website and the tab are active, even if you browse to a different website while still in the same browser tab that had the HTML5 tag, you CANNOT force stop Spotify! Only if you close the tab or the app, then you are able to force stop Spotify.
This is an extremely strange bug.
Questions:
Is this related to advertising and tracking everything you watch and listen to by Spotify? If that's the case, is such a thing even legal? Wouldn't such an app behavior fall under spyware category?
Is this a bug in Android library itself that provides video (sound?) functionality for HTML5? No other app in my device automatically starts though, except Spotify. Did they go lazy and are just using some buggy built-in function? Why doesn't this happen to any other apps on my phone except Spotify? Why does Spotify also start the Bluetooth service? What exactly is going on that once this happens, you cannot even force stop the Spotify app? What is it doing in the background?
To be clear, I'm not accusing Spotify of spying or being a spyware, I'm merely questioning the situation and if it's done on purpose for some reason or if it's just a nasty bug, the thing is, this could actually be an Android bug?
Would an app even be able to listen on anything and everything you watch and listen to? That seems a very scary bug or feature if that's the case.
My post contains only questions and speculation regarding this issue, but I believe Spotify has duty to answer regarding this issue and explain to us (their paying customers) why is Spotify automatically starting when you open a completely unrelated application to watch a video (or sound?)?
I highly and certainly doubt Spotify will answer. Also, considering they do NOT allow me to use the web version of Spotify on my phone EVEN THOUGH I SPECIFICALLY REQUEST THE DESKTOP VERSION, it makes me think they really really want you to install their app and my next thought is, this is not a safe application when it automatically starts without my consent on MY device.
Unless Spotify answers, explains and or fixes this issue, I personally feel that I have two choices:
1. Live with this.
2. Stop paying for and stop using Spotify and take my money to another service that respects my control over my own device.
Again, I absolutely and highly and surely and certainly doubt that Spotify will answer or explain or even fix this...
...but hey, stranger things have happened before, right?
