Galaxy S4 spotify widget issue

Hey everyone, first post here.  So I've got Spotify Premium.  Using it on my Galaxy S4 which is running android 4.4.2 via spotify's 4x1 widget on my home screen.  The widget works fine while music is playing but after I stop the music, the album art, arrows, etc all disappear and the widget goes dark.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I've tried force stopping, clearing the cache and clearing all  data but it didn't help.  Btw this isn't a lock screen issue, it's the regular widget that fits onto the home screen.  Thanks in adavnce...
