My Question or Issue

I used the feature where you sync local files from desktop to mobile for about a year without any issues. However, recently my phone hasnt been syncing any newly added songs and just gives them a ! error. I reinstalled the app and nothings changed. Support couldnt figure out a fix either 😞

Hi folks,

Thank you all for your inputs so far.

Just wanted to let you know that some changes to how local files are handled were recently introduced. Currently, it's no longer possible to wirelessly sync local files from your PC to your phone. Instead, the files have to be manually imported on the phone in order to be played by Spotify.

More info can be found in this article.

Hope this clears things up. Take care.

Hi there @dfwadawdawdwaw,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We'd like to take a closer look into this.

Can you confirm that you followed the steps that's provided in this article? There's some more steps to help thoroughly uninstall the app from your device, so if you haven't, we'd highly suggest it since the steps will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

Another useful step is to change the source folder of the local files on the pc. The steps are: Uninstall Spotify on both devices > create a new folder somewhere else on the pc and move the local files there > install Spotify again > remove any potential source folders and add the new one > download the playlist again.

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Ive fully uninstalled Spotify like you suggested but still it does not work. When downloading all my songs again the status notification that says '__ songs downloaded out of __' is wrong. I have 1005 songs on my playlist with 15 of them being local files. The status bar is only downloading the 990 that are not local files. Spotify support said that it was an on going issue with them not syncing but theyve said that in the past and been wrong

Hey @dfwadawdawdwaw,

Thank you for keeping us updated.

When syncing the local files, there could be a couple of things that may affect the downloading process. However, we need more info about the issue.

Would you mind confirming if you can play the local files on your Android device when Online, but the issue is just downloading them? Or if the Android device is not even showing the tracks in the playlist.

With this, we can have a better look at it and help you further.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi. The local files I've previously downloaded work perfectly fine. The only issue im having is with the newly added files not downloading.

Hey @dfwadawdawdwaw,

Thanks for the reply.

Are the new files obtained from a different source or have a different file format than the old ones?

Also, are you uploading them on the same network that you've previously used?

Keep us posted.

Its the same network, all files are MP3s

Hi @dfwadawdawdwaw,

Thanks for confirming this.

Could you try the following:

  1. Download the playlist on your desktop.
  2. On your phone, go to Settings > Apps > Spotify and clear the app's cache and data, then restart your phone.
  3. Once you're back in, start the Spotify app and download your playlist again.

Keep us posted.

I've already done that on top of fully uninstall and reinstall both apps. When I spoke to Spotify support they told me there was a widespread issue with this so maybe theres nothing we can do about it?

Hi @dfwadawdawdwaw,

Thanks for the reply!

There's this ongoing issue about downloaded tracks being unplayable in offline mode, but it seems you're having issues downloading the tracks instead. Could you try the following:

  1. Fully close the Spotify app on your PC (make sure it's not running in the Task Manager) and go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\.
  2. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Delete that file.
  3. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a folder Users. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  4. Restart Spotify on your PC and repeat the steps I mentioned in my previous post.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

I have also been having the same problem as well. Premium, USA, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Android 12. I have gone through the same steps, from clearing cache, to fully reinstalling Spotify on both PC and Android. I tried following all steps in this post and still have the same issue. If a solution is available, please post.

Are there any solutions yet? I've been having this issue for so long, I don't think it's still worth to keep my premium plan anymore.

Is this issue resolved yet? Ive been having the same problems for 2 weeks now and in the process of fixing it ive lost all previously playable songs 😞

why would you do that 😭 who thought this would be an improvement? whyd you and spotify try and call it a glitch for months?

spotify gave up on fixing their shtty system so they j removed it

Are you kidding me? So in 2022, the solution is to hook up a cable and copy the music from your laptop to your smartphone and this is what spotify considers as a good solution? It was working fine, now it is not anymore :'(

The spotify moderators are a joke and can never solve any serious issues

I've had this issue for 10 months now, Some local files still work! but recently none have scanned! All Unreleased EPS ive been wanting on my phone for so long! and It's starting to get frustrating! like i've done all the steps aswell and there is no fix yet.

why tho
