Fault information

  • When playing a song, the lyrics and progress bar scroll significantly faster than the song. This problem is most likely caused by Crossfade. The lyrics scrolling offset is more obvious. When transitioning from one song to the second song, the lyrics of the second song will be seriously offset.
  • This issue has persisted for three years and affects all songs. This is a serious problem.
  • I've tried: turning off Crossfade and Automix didn't help,
  • Updating to the latest version didn't help,
  • Replacing the device didn't help,
  • and trying the following networks: Wi-Fi/Mobile Data/VPN didn't help.
  • This is a persistent problem that many Spotify users, including me, have encountered

Hey @JamesKenway,

Thank you for posting in the Community and for the provided video and details!

Since you mentioned that this has persisted for three years, does the behavior get better at certain times or have the lyrics always been scrolling faster?

We've actually seen other similar reports in the forum before, and since you've gone over some troubleshooting steps already, we'd like to gather even more info to investigate what's possibly causing this behavior.

Let us know:

  • Does this persist on another mobile device or PC with your Spotify-account, both? Web Payer?
  • How does the app behave in offline mode
  • Could you test if there's a difference when you start playback on another device and control it via your phone using the Connect feature?
  • Ask a relative or a friend to log in to their account on your device(s).

In the meantime, you mentioned you've updated to the latest app version, but also make sure that you've given Spotify a clean reinstall with the steps here. It includes clearing the cache which can cause different issues when it's corrupted.

Appreciate the cooperation and we'll be on the lookout for your response.

Thank you for your response.

First, this issue occurs when I pause or exit the playback interface, but the lyrics and song progress bars return to normal (temporarily), only to reoccur with the next song.

Let me tell you, this issue also occurs on my other phone and sometimes on my Windows computer, with erratic playback on the Spotify website.

Songs I downloaded in offline mode lack lyrics, but when I replicated the issue, I still noticed the progress bar was fast.

I then tried connecting Spotify Connect on my phone to my Windows computer, but the synced lyrics and song progress bars continued to run faster than the songs on devices.

I then logged into my device using my family's Spotify account, and the issue persisted.

Finally, I've made sure to clear my cache and data, performed a full clean, and reinstalled Spotify.

That's all. I look forward to your response.❤️

Hey @JamesKenway,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

Since this could be related to the network connection as well, we'd recommend trying with a different Wi-Fi network to see if it makes any difference. If you don't have another one available, you can use your mobile data or a hotspot to test it.

Also, could you confirm if this behavior happens with all the songs you've tried or just specific ones?

Lastly, would you mind checking on the Web Player to see if the issue persists as @Ivelina previously recommended?

We'll be waiting for your response.

Hi, I'll keep sharing information.

I've tried switching to different networks, using mobile data, and using someone else's hotspot to play, but the problem persists.

Secondly, this problem occurs with all songs.

I tried playing music using the Spotify web app, and I found that this problem does not exist on the web app.

Thank you

Hey @JamesKenway,

Thank you for your message.

We appreciate all the troubleshooting you've tried so far. In order to continue investigating this further, let us know the following info:

- Android version of the affected device

- Spotify version you're currently running.

Also, since we couldn't replicate the behavior on our end, could you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout.
