Music plays by itself after bluetooth disconnected

Music plays by itself after bluetooth disconnected

I'm having an issue with spotify playing music by itself. This happens mostly when I disconnect a bluetooth device. The app shows no music playing and the only way I can stop the music is by going into 'App Setting' on my phone and 'Force Stop' the app. To prevent this to happen I need to pause the music first on the Spotify app and then disconnect from bluetooth.

I started playing with different apps to see if Spotify was the only app with this behaviour (I've only noticed this with Spotify up to now).

So I can reproduce this issue with the following:

- Youtube video in Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)

- Windows Media Player (the Universal version, not the legacy)

I don't reproduce the issue with:

- VLC player

- Windows Media Player Legacy (the one from the Windows 7 era)

So it does seem that apps can do something about it.

Interestingly, Windows only resumes play on the latest app that was playing, e.g.:

- I play/pause Spotify, then play/pause Youtube, then turn off the Bose speakers -> Youtube play resumes

- the other way around -> Spotify starts playing

- if the last playing app is one not affected by the problem (e.g. VLC), then nothing auto resumes when disconnecting the Bose speakers.

That is good information. I do hope the Spotify developers take a look at this and do the work to reproduce and fix the problem themselves rather than giving pointless update suggestions over the years this problem has existed!

I'm having a similar problem with my MacBook Air. I leave it open and playing Spotify at night with my bluetooth earbuds connected to help me fall asleep. My earbuds will eventually die, and in theory my MacBook should always stop playing once my earbuds disconnect. However, it will sometimes continue playing. Not only that, it will begin playing something entirely different to what I'd been listening to before, and only when my earbuds disconnect. It will also stop playing when my earbuds connect, and in the morning I'll shut my computer; but when I open my computer later in the day, it will start playing full volume! If there's some way to fix this, or some setting I need to adjust, please let me know!

Hi folks,

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about this. We see how cooperative you've been we appreciate it!

However, looking at this thread we see that quite a few issues have been collected in the same case and we would like to help everyone to reach resolutions. That being said, we are locking this particular thread for new comments, as these different issues have different causes we would like to ask you guys to head to these threads:

1. on IOS devices with a Bluetooth connection.
2. car connectivity with a Bluetooth connection.
3. Windows Desktop with a Bluetooth connection.

We're linking them for you guys to be able to navigate towards the correct threads where we can provide more device focused help. If you are having this same issue when connecting to a Bluetooth device please head to the thread for the device that you are using and we will gladly look further into it.

For everyone, who might come across this thread, here's a list of general troubleshooting steps to try before heading to the threads we've left above:

1. Pair and unpair from the Bluetooth device.
2. Log out and log in two times in a row from your account to re-sync your overall account data from your device to the Spotify platform.
3. You should run a clean reinstall of the app, following the exact steps from this guide as well. This will assure you're running the latest app version and that the cache is cleared.
4. If you have an Android and use an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app.
Cheers.
