Music stops playing when I open another app

My Question or Issue

I'm trying to figure out how to keep Spotify playing in the background when I open another app that wants access to my phone's audio.

Specifically, when I view a video on twitter or YouTube in the Edge or Chrome browsers, Spotify stops, and the audio for the video clip takes over as the only audio being outputted.  This is especially frustrating when it's a site that autoplays (and sometimes ads will be the culprit).

Is there a setting somewhere (either Android, or Spotify, or browser) that would help me?

There is currently no way to give the Spotify app priority over all other sounds on you Android phone. Music should not stop if you go over a video with it's sound set to Mute on the various social media apps, but if those apps play videos with sound automatically, then you'll hear those videos and the music from the Spotify app will be paused.

There are different devices with different personalization settings out there so there is no one for all fix to this. You'd need to go and set us user preferences for each of those social media apps you use so that they don't play sound automatically. Muting notifications can also help on some devices.

This happens to me even when I open Quickbooks, which I don't believe plays audio. Furthermore, Spotify is playing on one laptop, and Quickbooks is open on another. Although they do both use the same Chrome account.

An ACTUAL SOLUTION

 GOOD LOCK!!! (Samsung exclusive) Good lock has a sound assistant feature that lets you set different volumes for different apps AND let apps play over each other (at the very bottom of sound assistant settings) (For those who can't find good lock in their galaxy store there is an alternative one on the play store called fine lock that supposedly has the same features)

This makes NO sense. Im drawing and everytime i open a different tab, which remotely most of them arent even video platforms, it always stops and lags out for like a minute or 2. Ive tried updating, messing with my settings, clearing the app data, logging back and forth, restarting my phone and NOTHING has worked, this randomly happened 1 month ago and it keeps going, its not fixable, ive tried so much.

When ever I open app music stops and I checked every permission and everything every thing is fine but it’s not working .i reinstalled two of them checked all

Canceling my subscription this makes spotify worthless to me other streaming music apps do not do this on android.

Hi Spotify! 

Big fan. Music is literally ALWAYS on while I'm around. You pinned me at the top 2% of listeners in 2024. I like to play phone games while Spotify plays through a Bluetooth speaker from the same device. While playing my phone games, I get ads on the game. These ads will interrupt Spotify and pause my music. That doesn't sit right with me! I spoke with David A. from your support team at great length and we tried all sorts of creative fixes. None worked. My alarm app overrides literally EVERYTHING! And it's a free app. I'm sure that some beautiful talented programmers like yourself can outdo a simple free alarm app. Do your thing! We believe in you!

So, why is it that my music will play even as I am trying to open a video on Snapchat, which then plays over the video I'm trying to hear BUT it will not let me open my Ring camera live view, that is muted completely, without pausing my Spotify completely. Your responses do not make sense, even 5 years later

Spotify stops when opening Facebook, any news site, or any site with any media content. Have been trying to find a solution and just read through this chain; are you seriously telling me that this is a ten year old problem without a solution from Spotify?
