Nothing happens after scanning Spotify code

Nothing happens after scanning Spotify code

My Question or Issue

When I try to scan the Spotify code like shown in the screen recording nothing happens and I get sent back to the search menu. I let other people try this and another person with a smartphone from Xiaomi also has this problem. On two other Samsungs and one iPhone it works totally fine. Can someone explain, why it works for some but not for others? Is there an A/B testing going on?

Hi Yordan,

I would like to add info to this. The problem of Midesimone is reproducable on any iPhone that requires to switch to the macro lens to get a sharp picture of small objects. The camera scan option of the spotify iOS app only uses the main camera which does only produce a sharp picture if the item is about 30 cm away from the lens. This is a problem with items that use small spotify codes as her bracelet. The camera API allows to interact with the IPhone Pro Series in a way that it switches the lens most suitable for the "photos" distance. The amazon app is a good example for a camera interation which also works great with the Pro Models (iPhone 16 Pro in my case). I would really like to be able to scan the codes from my cover art calendar again.

Regards

Christian

Hey @mr_pokeylope,

Thank you for the info and for the very detailed explanation! We appreciate your feedback and will use the opportunity as we strive to make the app as good as it can be ๐Ÿ™‚

In the meantime, try moving the camera slightly to one side when near-focusing on the song code. Even if they are not completely in-focus, the iOS app does read small codes for us, albeit it sometimes takes a few attempts for it to do so. On your end of course this will also depend on the size & material of the bracelet and how small the code is.

Hope you'll find this info helpful and that you can make this work for the time being! We're here for you in case there's anything else in the meantime.

Hola!

Saludos!

Christian

Hey @Pr77Pr77,

Thanks for reaching out.

I've checked on my Samsung and the code opens fine. Can you play the track that the code links to?

I've generated a new code for you to try, can you let me know if this one doesn't work either?

If yes, let me know the exact Spotify version you're currently running so we can investigate further.

Keep us posted.

Hey,

as I said, it works on some devices but not on others. I've tried your code and even other playlists and songs, which all play fine. I already reinstalled the app 2 times.

Thanks for your help!

I am on the version 9.0.42.529. It's the latest on Google Play.

Hey @Pr77Pr77,

Thanks for your reply and for the info.

Just to confirm I've understood you correctly - is this the only code that doesn't work? Have you tried with other tracks from the same album?

Cheers,

No, it is not the only code that is not working. I've tried other songs from other albums and completely different playlists. Should I try it with other Songs from that album?

Hello

Same problem since several weeks ago (before worked as described with the same sources). Smartphone: Nokia 5.3

Restart of the device and new installation from the Google App Store tested several times now with no changes in performance

Thank you for the investigation of this issue!

Hey again @Pr77Pr77 and welcome to the thread @tomicx

We'd like to look further into what's happening here and it would be very helpful if you could send us the following details if you've not already done so:

  • Device(s) this is happening on (make, model) and OS-version(s).
  • Exact Spotify-version.
  • If it's a specific code and not multiple ones, feel free to send it.

@Pr77Pr77 as you mentioned that another person with a Xiaomi smartphone could reproduce this, it would be great if you could either ask them to join and send over their details here in the thread, or you could also send them.

We appreciate the cooperation and will be on the lookout.

Hey @tomicx,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

To continue investigating this behavior, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if the code works properly? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

It would also be great if you could have the same friend or family member log in with their account on your device and try the code as well to see if the issue persists.

Lastly, since this could be related to network permissions, could you connect your device to a different Wi-Fi network and try the code to see if it makes any difference? In case you don't have another one available, you can use your mobile data or a hotspot just to test it.

We'll be waiting for your response.

I'll do that tomorrow!

The WiFi isn't the problem. I tried with two different WiFis and 4G.

Hello @OscarDC

the performance of the app code was successfully tested (and code working as normal) before with a different Spotify account by a family member and with a different smartphone type

further tests still to come tomorrow

Hello everybody

logged into the Spotify app today with my smartphone and the family member's account and there were no problems to use the code!

I have the same problem and did some testing two days ago with spotify supporter.

Same solution .. loggin in with another account on the same phone works perfect. with my account it doesn't work. So it is a account-related problem.
The supporter said he would give the info to the programmers.

so i hope this gets fixed in the backend soon.

Pixel 7a (latest android and latest spotify version). updated everyting when i first noticed the problem a few days ago. Before that I used the code scan nearly everyday (we have a calendar with a song of the day). Don't really know if it got broken with a specific spotify update since i didn't keep track of which app updated when on my smartphone.

My wife has the exact same smartphone and does not have the problem. I didn't check, but I guess she also has the latest os and spotify version.

What did I do when I noticed the problem? Cleaning cache / data of spotify app .. rebooting the smartphone.. reinstalling the app (to the latest version, with reboot after deinstalling)... all of these did not help when using my account.
Finally log off my account and log in with my wifes account and scanning workds. Log off with her account and log in with my account again and it didn't work ๐Ÿ˜ž

i guess that's all I can do .. if you need any further help or things to do let me know

Wi-Fi network tested successfully last week with family member's smartphone and a different Spotify account.

Behaviour tests with my own smartphone and account (same network) however stay negative, and are performed daily with changing codes from the calendar.
